A woman with jade blue eyes almost materialized out of the darkness in the corner near me. She came out and held her hand out to shake, sweeping her robes thoroughly. "Greetings Bobby. I've heard about you. I'm Diana Lockhart, your friendly academy witchcraft professor (for girls of course)! I was on guard duty tonight, lucky too because you caught my attention because if it was someone like Mr Dranxen, you'd be dead. You should keep down you cursing. Spectacular work on the weapons by the way, it's a very advanced type of magic but it seems as if you're a natural.Anyways, just to clarify that we're cool, let's shake on it! Though you might want to know me as someone else."
I stretched my hand wearily and shook hers. She wore flowing violet robes and a witch's hat, which barely revealed the flowing jet black hair behind her, which looked suspiciously like she was copying Gladius with his (and mine) usual ruffled hairstyle. She had a snub nose and a wide mouth. But the thing that caught my attention the most was her jade blue eyes. It was an unusual color for eyes but I knew someone with it. I racked my mind for answers as we shook our hands.
I finally gave up at asked her, "Who would I want to know you by?" She gave a familiar smile and the answer struck me. "You're Gladius's sibling! I've heard of him having a sibling but he never talked about it much!"
"Good job kid." Diana said sarcastically,"Gladius never does talk much about his family. Nevertheless, he would still do anything for me. Mom left us for dead after Dad left her for drinking too much but Old Ma found us. He treats her like she's our grandma or something." She let out a low chuckle with a glint of respect I her to eyes. "We twins know each other. Good lady Old Ma is. Anyway, you'll need to learn some basic stuff if you want to travel around the world searching for the Elementals. But don't tell Gladius 'kay?"
"Deal." I answered eagerly.
"Good. People want magical creature parts nowadays you know? And you're gonna have to learn to hide Chiller here by infusing him within yourself. What we Bonders call, Infusion."
"Just saying, I haven't studied so I may be cr*p at this."
"Sorcery doesn't require study. It requires a strong will and determination. Just watch and learn. Since my Hippocamp, Kelpie, is water type, I'll need some water so could you move to the right a bit?"
I edged towards the right as she slowly magicked part of the ground into a pond. She stretched out her hand and exposed a black tattoo I hadn't seen before. "These tattoos represent your bonds. If it's clear and dark, it means your bond with your creature is strong. If not, keep trying. If you want to let your animal out of infusion, you have to bend its will towards you and push it out. You might have to put a lot of energy into it but it becomes easier over time. Watch." Diana explained
Diana stretched her hand out towards the small small pool of water. She closed her eyes and started trembling. She was slowly muttering something. Suddenly, a flash of light blasted from her hand and some kind of water horse came out. It had scales instead of fur and its tail looked strangely like a fish's one. Kelpie, I thought.
"Infusing them is harder than Defusing them though. Your creatures will get restless while infused and will be grateful to be Defused. Remember you only infuse when necessary for it is very uncomfortable half the time."
" 'K how do I 'Infuse' then?" I replied, stretching out my hand and closing my eyes. It felt legit weird.
"Pull your Wyvern into yourself. Bend his will to yours. You might initially struggle but that's normal for a starter." Diana's voice sounded as if it was miles away. I felt for the mental cord between Chiller and my mind. I clenched my fists as I tugged at it. Chiller gave an anxious whine. With colossal effort, I tugged it harder hand drew it towards my mind. For a moment, Chiller strained and fought back as I gritted my teeth. There was a soft snap. His mind, his consciousness, they were merged with my own. I felt a stinging pain on my chest and looked down. There was a tattoo on my heart. It had burnt through my thick coat. I patted it.
"Good job!" Diana congratulated, "Just keep practicing and you'll be up to it. I'm just surprised that you haven't had the usual temporary exhilaration that most starters have!"
At that exact moment, a wave of nausea washed over me and my knees buckled. Diana muttered something that sounded vaguely like a 'never mind' and poked me with her foot. "I stand corrected. Just Defuse Chiller before you faint. He'll fly you back up while I'm gonna have to go back to my duty. It's instinct!" she said with a smile.
I Defused him, barely being able to lift up my arm and lay down lifelessly. Chiller shook himself and gave me a little growl. He nabbed my shirt and flew me towards my room. I saw the blurry image of Diana walking away with her violet robes dragging along behind her. Chiller dropped me on my bed and before my head could even touch the pillow, I was out cold...
