Home. Veronica's third favorite place to be. She slumped onto a sofa. Boy she was tired. It was a good thing she left then or she may have fell asleep and drowned herself. Cade was in the kitchen making dinner. He made everything from scratch. Always telling her that it was cheaper in cost and just plain better that way. Veronica didn't know how to cook. What would she make when he was gone? TV dinners? Hot dogs could work. TV dinners sounded better, but they were more expensive. Cade served turkey meatloaf and a glass of milk for each of them. She sliced a piece and then put it into her mouth. Delicious. A knock on the door. Who could that be? Coming over at half past midnight. Veronica turned the knob of the door slightly. She peeked through the gap. It was the little girl.
"Aren't you suppose to be in bed and how did you find us?" Veronica crossed her arms.
"I couldn't sleep, so I looked you up in the yellow pages. Thanks again for saving me. You helped a whole lot." Daisy didn't look one bit tired.
Daisy turned around and Veronica was about to close the door when Cade said," Come in, if you want. It is cold outside. If you don't want to come in, I can walk you home. It might not be a good idea for you to walk alone."
"Okay. Come with me." Daisy began walking.
"Be home soon." Cade shut the door behind himself. That was strange. Veronica didn't even realize the yellow pages still existed, yet this young girl did. What the girl said echoed in her mind. You helped a whole lot. What had she meant.
