So... Veronica started with a perfect dive. The only thing was, she was not in the lead. Of course, the person who starts with the lead almost never wins, so kinda a good thing. Elias loved narrating races in his head. He didn't narrate out loud anymore because he was always criticized when he did. Elias had his own race, the men's 400m medley, coming soon. None of his friends knew. It was to be a surprise. However, they were all here to see it in person. It was now the halfway point. Veronica was in 5th. To be guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals she would need to place 2nd.
"Hey Eli, do you think Veronica can make it?" Cassie was staring at the distance between Veronica and the current 2nd placer.
"I think she can, but she needs to pick up speed quickly to do so?" The swimmers had reached the final 50m. Elias saw Veronica begin to push. Her push was fast. Elias had a slow push, but a fast starting pace. They were opposites when it came to races. Come on Veronica, you can do it. Veronica touched the wall 3rd with a time of 2 minutes and 10 seconds on the dot.
Elias left for the changing room. His race was in 15 minutes. After he had this race he would watch Veronica do one more race in the 100m Butterfly. He swim outfit was purple for obvious reasons. Well, maybe not so obvious. It was because his favorite flower was the violet and that kind of dictated his favorite color, which then dictated his swimsuit color.
A man about the age of 40 stopped in front of Elias. "Good luck young fella. I have a feeling you will do well."
Elias stared at the man in bewilderment. Elias wanted to say don't tease me, but didn't. Doing so would be rude and Elias did all he could to be nice. "Thanks. Are you racing perchance?'
"Indeed, I am. See you at the race. I have recommended you for the swimmer's league." With that the old man left.
The swimmer's league? Was that some sort of elite club? Probably not. I's probably a place for swimmers to just hang out. Then why would there need to be recommendations.
"Elias Carrienta in Lane 7" The intercom had begun naming off the swimmers in the heat. He walked up to his lane. The last swimmer was named. The pistol blasted and he dived right in.
The 400m medley consisted of 100m of Butterfly, 100m of Backstroke, 100m of Breaststroke, and 100m of Freestyle. Elias was beast at Backstroke. It was where he planned to takeover the lead since he knew he would drop on the final 50m. He did exactly that. He came into the term for breaststroke with a fairly decent lead. Of course, Elias couldn't tell the exact amount of lead, but it seemed good enough.
The final 50m went terribly. Well, in Elias' opinion anyway. He saw 2 people pass him. He touched with a time of 5 minutes and 38 seconds in 3rd place. Now he would wait to see if his time was good enough.
