Veronica woke up the next morning to the smell of french toast. Cade had left breakfast on the table and had taken off on an errand. Veronica gobbled the french toast in a flood of syrup. She loved it that way even though her brother said it was disgusting. She opened her mailbox. Inside was a letter directed to her. Veronica ripped it open. It was from the Olympics. The United States wanted her to compete in the United States trials for the 800m swim race. Veronica coudn't wait for the trials. She couldn't believe she was good enough. The trials would be this upcoming Saturday. They would be held in San Francisco, California. That would be a two hour drive from where she lived. Veronica would have to ask a friend for a ride. Now she took out the other letter. This one was for Cade. Veronica went back inside the house. She placed Cade's letter by his desk. Now Veronica was off to the beach.
