It's Christmas!

Actually, it's still December 23 but the Christmas feels are already here! Christmas lights illuminating the houses, the streets, huge Christmas trees, there are lots of Christmas sales, cakes, and, of course, SNOW!

It hasn't fully snowed yet but judging from the coldness of the atmosphere, it'll probably come tomorrow. I hope it does.

Anyway, today, I'm in a karaoke bar with Rika and Kou. The drama and soccer club had a joint Christmas party celebration because the drama club's president, Aika Yoshida-senpai, and the soccer team's captain, Arata Midoriyama-senpai, are apparently dating.

Rika is a very good singer. Kou is good with the maracas. And I am good at eating. I like listening to music but music doesn't seem to like me. Whenever I try to play an instrument, it would always end up broken, like the eardrums of the listeners. I never tried singing ever since that incident in grade school, either. My love for music is unrequited.

"Yui-san, you've done nothing but eat! You should sing, too." Kou handed me the microphone.

"No, really. Me not singing is the best course of action. For everyone's safety," I murmured.

"Okay, I'll sing something for you then."

"Oh, um, then can you sing, Give Me Candy by INFANTMETAL?'"

Kou tapped buttons on the controller and the opening of the song started playing. Kou sang it well, considering the metal-ness of the song. Also, the original singers were female and had quite a high pitch so I think Kou did a really great job.

"Cheers for Kou-senpai!" Rika shouted and everyone picked up their glasses and clinked it with the others.

After the party, Kou told us he'd send Rika and I home. Rika's house was closer but he insisted on walking with me even though his house was in the opposite direction.

"Yui-san, you're really close with Yoemon-kun and Asuma-kun. Are you dating one of them? Or both?"

"That's mean. They're just my best friends, that's all. Although Dai-chan did try to ask me out."

"How about the glasses guy?"

"Haruta? He's my lab partner,"

"So you're not going out with anyone?"

"Nope."

"Can you be my girlfriend then?"

I stopped in my tracks and yelled "Yes!".

I picked up a 500 yen on the sidewalk and showed it to Kou. 500 yen, lucky!

Before that, was he saying something? I only caught the words, can you and friend. We kept walking, an air of silence hung in the air. Eventually, we reached the gate of my house.

"So, Yui-san, about what I said earlier..." He trailed off.

"Oh, that. Okay sure."

"REALLY? YOU'RE SERIOUS?

"Yeah, I mean you want to be friends but we're already friends, right?"

"No, um, I asked you to be my girlfriend."

"I am a girl and I am your friend. That makes me your girl friend, yes?"

"Uh, no. I mean girlfriend, like, we go to school together, we go home together, we go out on weekends..."

"Okay, let's meet up at the station tomorrow. Wait, don't you have club practice everyday?"

"I do, but that's not the point!" He slapped his palm on his face.

I looked at him curiously. He looked like he was troubled by something. Maybe it's the pressure for an upcoming game?

"Well, anyway," he took a deep breath. "You're my girlfriend now, right?"

"Um, yeah, I guess?"

"Okay. And I'm your boyfriend?"

"I believe so, yes."

"Which means I can do this," he leaned in and kissed me on my cheek. He smiled at me and left.

Eh? What? Huh?
