Chapter Five

"Avia, I found something!" Grayson piped up, as I immediately looked over at the computer. It was the next day and apparently the 'computer' had went missing.

So we decided to go to the bookstore nearby that had a Starbucks in it. It wasn't very crowded today, since it was summer and everyone was on vacation.

Grayson, of course, had to turn off the tracking settings on the computer so no one would find out about this.

That brought me back to the night of the murder for some reason. That night, all of us kids were playing at our Aunt Carlie's house, well, sleeping over to be more exact.

When we woke up the police were there in the morning.

And that day was when everything changed. The day that they told us our parents were dead, and so were our grandparents, and how we would all be split up.

For some reason, if felt like I was split up on purpose.

Something didn't feel right.

"What is it?" I asked him, as he turned the laptop towards me.

It looked as if it was a report about the murder. The article seemed to be a type of police report. I quickly read the report and let out a small gasp.

I'll give the basic summary of what it said:

Called in at about 12:05 for duty. We went over to The Butlers resident and immediately were greeted with an unpleasant scene. Shay Butler was found in his room, gunshot in his forehead. No sign of a fight back. We searched the house and found a gun in his hand. We haven't ruled out if it was a suicide or a homicide, but no evidence of fingerprints were on the gun.

At around 12:20, we furthered investigated the area only to find different body parts scattered throughout the forest. Furthered investigation revealed that they were the body parts of Laurie Butler and Carl Butler.

While discovering the body parts, we had found a body hanging from a tree-rope swing. It appeared the person was Colette Butler who committed suicide, but other evidence revealed that the body was a sort of set up.

Whoever did this certainly got away. No suspect was found.

"Avia?" Grayson questioned me, his voice soft.

I didn't realize I was crying until my cheeks felt wet. I looked up at him and his eyes held remorse and in a way, understanding. I pushed the laptop back to him.

This was just too much for me to handle at the moment.

"I-I think we are done for now," I quietly mumbled, as I got up from the chair and walked outside. I immediately found a bench to sit on and sat down while I watched a mom and her daughter play in the playground across the street.

Why was life screwed up?

Who shot dad? Who chopped up grandma and grandpa? Where was mom? Did she really kill herself? Or was that a lie? But it had to be the truth, since the reported it.

So where was mom now?

And who killed them?

I felt someone sit down next to me and I saw it was Grayson, holding the laptop. I scooted over so he could sit and he did. We both watched the little girl run around while her mother playfully chased her.

I felt a sense of jealousy towards the two.

I missed the times like those

Or when everything was so normal

"I lost my dad when I was three because of a hunting accident. He was in the forest hunting, when all of a sudden one of his friends accidentally pulled the trigger of the gun and hit my dad in the lung. He basically died of lung failure," Grayson said, as I looked at him, my eyes widening.

How could the boy who was so sweet and funny have lost his dad like that?

I saw his eyes flash with a sense of hurt.

"My mom was depressed. I remember how she would always cry, it would never stop. The crying, the pain. So when I was about eight, she killed herself, and after that, I was sent to a orphanage with my older sister, who was four years older than me. We had stayed together until last year, where a nice couple adopted her. They didn't want me, and my sister tried to fight with them, but they took her anyways. Then, I was sent here." He said, his eyes filling with sadness.

I immediately felt horrible for him, and felt a sense of understanding. I knew how it was like to loose people you love.

I grabbed his hand and he looked at me with surprise, but he didn't let go. His hand had tensed up for a second, but relaxed tag my touch.

So we sat like that, holding hands, and understanding each other's pain for what seemed like forever.
