Turning over and stretching I groaned and winced as all my muscles screamed at me, I don’t remember what happened to me as I blacked out but it became apparent that Uncle Lance must have carried me home as I was in my room, gritting my teeth I carefully pulled myself out of bed and hobbled downstairs. Mum was making breakfast, the smell of bacon was over powering and I had to put a hand over my mouth and nose as not to suffocate on the smell, Lance was sat at the table with my dad.

“Morning kitten, glad to see your alive, just concentrate on your breathing and the smells wont be so over powering after a little while” he said with a light chuckle as I sat down and did as he said. Not long after mum served breakfast, I realised that I was starving, which really wasn’t a surprise considering the fact that I threw up the entire contence of my stomach the night before.

After breakfast was done Uncle Lance took me to the forest, we walked off the dirt path into a clearing, looking around my surroundings I noticed a fallen tree with a couple of bigger snapped off branches scattered around it.

“time to see what your made of, different werecats have different abilities but we all have enhanced strength, speed, sigh, hearing and smell but our skin is also a lot more sensitive which can be a bad thing when we get injured and although we heal a lot faster than the average human it hurts a lot more” he chuckled lightly “now then, I want you to go pick up one of those tree branches” he gestured to the tree and the big branches surrounding it, I stood there for a moment just looking at him, when it became apparent that he wasn’t joking I walked over to the branches, picking the smallest of the bunch I grabbed it with both hands, and not expecting it to be so light, toppled over onto my butt with it, I heard Lance start laughing and turned from where I now sat on the ground to glare at him as he doubled over. Standing up with an evil smile on my face I threw the branch at him, in a blur he dodged it at the last second “okay, okay, sorry” he giggled, I turned back to the larger branches and one by one worked my way up from the smallest to the biggest, the biggest being as tall as Lance and twice his size, throwing it aside with ease I looked at Lance expectedly “so what now?”

“Well now kitten we see how fast you are, how about a nice game of tag?” Lance said with a goofy grin

“erm... alright then” I was rather sceptical but after the branches I knew not to question him, Lance calmly walked over to me, tapping me on the shoulder then shot off with a childish giggle left behind, I started running in the direction he’s gone and spotted him a while ahead, he jumped over a fallen tree and veered left, I started gaining on him, ducking under branches and over fallen trees while trying to avoid bushes and stinging nettles I eventually caught him out about 10 minutes later when we broke into a clearing by a river, as he went to jump over it I put all my power into a jump and caught him mid-air, we both came crashing down on the other side with a thud, we both lay there giggling, I realised I wasn’t panting or even slightly out of breath, standing up I looked around where we’d come too, we where by the river that ran through the forest and looking up the length of it I realised with a start that we where near where the trees scattered and the motorway on the other side of the forest to where we entered was, we’d run ten miles in a couple of minutes without even realising it, I looked down at Lance with an incredulous look on my face “didn’t feel like you where running that fast did it, but I can tell you weren’t running your fastest, neither was I, I didn’t want to push you too far on your first try, how about you race me back to the spot we just came from? Really test just how fast you can go” Lance said as he picked himself up off the forest floor and dusted himself off, winking at me he jumped back over the stream and was gone, I jumped back over the stream and decided to take a different route to the one he’d taken, this one took me down the side of the river, if I remembered correctly the river didn’t run that far away from the spot where we had been, I followed it until it started to curve then turned left from the river and shot straight down in the direction of the woods edge, coming up behind the broken tree I jumped over it and landed in a crouch, standing up straight just as Lance came crashing through the tree’s to my left.

“well you’re rather fast that’s for sure” Lance walked over to the fallen down tree and sat down, patting the spot next to him, I walked over and sat down “ there are going to be some changes to you over the next few days, as you’ve already seen with your sense of smell, you’ll physically change as well, you wont be able to change forms yet because your body isn’t ready for it, that’s where the physical changes come from, it’s you’re body’s way of getting ready, I’m not going to lie, it will hurt” he chuckled “but once it’s over you’ll be fine but don’t forget that the first time you change it will hurt like hell as well, that’s something that wont change, but you’ll get used to it” Lance smiled, then looked at the ground with a slight frown “you’re parents never wanted this for you, they just wanted you to live a normal happy life without worries or complications that being one of us brings” sighing me looked up at the parting in the tree’s at the fluffy clouds that where passing over head, it was rather sunny today and the clearing that we where in was picturesque with the sun breaking through the tree’s onto the soft green grass and the shade the tree’s through over the grass, after a short pause Lance spoke again “I can understand why they wanted that, thing’s have changed now more than you may realise, there isn’t just the fact that it’s going to be hard for you to get close to people because they might find out your secret, there are many more things to conceder but I wont be speaking about them just yet, for all we know there may never be a time for you to have to know, I’m hoping that’s the case, your life’s complicated enough now as it is” Uncle Lance shifted and got up from the log, I stood up and followed him back to the field that settled itself in between the border of the woods and the house, I was standing behind him when a thought popped into my head, Lance was just strolling into the long grass with his hands behind his head, he didn’t know what hit him until we where both rolling down the field in the long grass, when I stopped rolling I got up with a chuckle and looked at Lance who was still sprawled out in the long grass

“Ah young grass hopper, never let your guard down, never know when attack may strike” I said in a sensei voice before bursting out into laughter and running the rest of the way to the house with Lance chasing after me.
