A few hours have passed by, we were the ones up next. The soldier at the entrance called on us. I gingerly pushed Lillian towards him. She looked at me confused.

"Go. It's your turn." I explained, "Daddy'll go right after you, sweetie."

"NEXT!" The soldier yelled once again, and my daughter rushed towards him, and he motioned her in.

The second she was out of my line of sight, I was overwhelmed with dread. She wasn't infected, I knew that, but what did they deem infected?

I felt heavier and even more impatient than when I was in the back of the line. Now desperately anticipated that "next" from the soldier, and not the sight of Lillian being walked out by two soldiers...

"This is private Ramírez, got a couple civilians in the outer perimeter. Please, advise." I heard the broken voice on the Sargent's radio as he walked by me.

"We've got enough problems, Ramírez, take them out." I heard him say into the radio, before he went out of earshot.

No wonder gunshots were more constant, they were killing anyone who tried to get in, infected or not infected.

The man behind me was grunting and groaning loudly, he hid his face in his hands and bent over.

"Are you alright, sir?" The woman behind him pat his back , and he turned to her and growled, he launched at her, making her fall down to the ground, he pinned her beneath his weight. She was screaming loudly and desperately, while the man was attacking her.

"He's infected!" The guards yelled they ran towards them and shot him then kicked him off of her. They she laid motionless on the ground her eyes white open and blood spilling out of her neck. Veins and tissue ripped out and sticking out like exposed wires.

Everything happened so fast the guards couldn't react quick enough. It was too late now... They both were dead.

It was finally my turn for health inspection. It was just like I expected. They lay you on a stretcher and thoroughly inspected your body.

It was a long procedure to follow, and a lot of questions to answer. Allergies; Conditions; Injuries; How much contact have I had with infected or anyone who might seem so; Work; Abilites, etc.

Right after the nurse weighed me, and measured my height. "You'd make a great soldier." She commented and continued on her duties. She handed me a paper, she seemed to had written all my information in and sent me to on my way into the zone.

Just like people outside, the people inside looked devastated. Sobbing, sniffing, crying filled my ears. There was people sitting on the floor, lying on the floor.

"Daddy!" Lillian waved from a far. I was walking towards her when a soldier stopped me.

"Papers." He said. Of course, I was already here, and that was my final step to quarantine. I handed him the papers. " He cursory read it, stamped it, and gave it back. As soon as he was done strapping a bracelet around my wrist, he dismissed me.

Taking the papers, I quickly walked to my daughter, and hugged her. "We are safe now, baby girl."
