The car stopped dry. There was no gas. Shit. Before any of those things decided to randomly appear, I decided to get out of there as fast I could. I gently shook my daughter awake.

"Lilly, dear, wake up. We have to go."

She yawned and sat up. "What?" She spoke tiredly.

"We are walking the car has no gas - it stopped. Come on, baby girl." I grabbed her hand and gingerly dragged her out of the car. Without complaining, she followed a bit slow as she adjusted to reality.

I heard multiple loud grunts from behind me as I quickly walked with Lillian. Assuming it was an infected I decided to run, sweeping her off her feet. She looked back to where the grunts were coming from.

"Dad!" She yelled to me. "Wait, it is not one of them."

Confused, I decided to look back. I found a man with an injured leg, forcing himself to walk.

"Help..." He groaned then tripped and fell to the ground.

I backed away, not knowing what to do. I had my daughter with me, I have to get her to safety first.

"Let's help him." My daughter look at me expectantly...

"Please..." The man grunted, and stretched his hand towards us.

With my daughter expecting me to help, I dropped her to the ground slowly. "Wait here." I walked forward to the man to help him stand up, until I heard a loud screech. I stopped dead on my tracks.

"Please..." The man continued to beg, and tried to reach out for me once again. That's when I saw an infected running towards us.

"I am sorry." Turning around immeadiately, and grabbing Lillian's hand. I sprinted away.

"No! wait! Please!" I heard the man screaming a few seconds after I left, and the infected's grunts as it attacked the disabled.

"Dad! It is eating him!"

"Don't look back,sweetie! Let's keep going."

"But..." She kept quite and ran with me. She will scold me later.

. . .

We had been running for quite a while now. There was no infected to be seen. We slowed down to catch our breath. The quarantine zone was visible now, and few people rushed through us.

"We could've helped him." Lillian spoke up to me as she walked, looking to the ground.

"No,Lilly... We couldn't."

"How could you leave a man behind like that?"

"I..." I couldn't, I would've never left that man behind but, seeing the situation as it is. I had no other choice. He could be sick and infect us..."Let's get to that quarantine zone." I pressed on, trying to leave the subject behind.

. . .

There was a line to get to the quarantine zone. Probably health inspection. Making sure no infected get into their restrictions. People were crying, sobbing, sniffing. There was too much noise. Anyone who was infected got shot in the head without mercy. Not caring if you were a woman or a kid.

Soldiers were guarding the surroundings, trying to keep us safe, or making sure nobody else manages to enter.

It took us quite an effort to get into this zone, up a hill having some of those infected behind us, having to dodge branches and try not to trip on roots. It was the fastest and safest way. The street was filled with people and abandoned cars, it was a damn maze, a messy and life threatening maze...

The infected that were chasing us were killed by the soldiers up on the hill, guarding the entrance to the quarantine zone. They pushed us to the ground once we walked up, forcing us on our knees. The inspected our bodies, most probaby for bites, or any sign of infection. They considered us clear and allowed us to keep on walking.

Now, we're on this line, a very long, long line. All waiting to have our approval to enter the quarantine zone.

They took one man out, not older than 30, he was escorted by two soldiers. They took him far, where they wouldn't be seen, after a while of them disappearing a shot was heard. The soldiers both came into sight, they had crimson stains on their coats, and one of them was reloading a handgun. They killed the man.

. . .

We were still waiting in line, waiting to get our check up on whether we were worthy of living, or we were infected and had to be shot in the head.

I heard loud coughs from behind me, I looked back through the corner of my eye, I saw blood; Blood stained the hand of the man behind me. He kept on coughing, and more blood stained his hand and his lips. He grunted, and he wiped the corner of his mouth, where more blood was pouring out. It was dark and thick.

"Excuse me." He said as he proceeded to wipe his mouth, taking the residue away from around it. He then wiped his hands with a cloth.

I quickly looked away to not make him uncomfortable but, then I heard a woman, probably the one behind him. "Are you ok, sir?"

"Yes, I just received a few strong hits. That's all."

"Do you want some water to wash your mouth from the blood taste?" The woman said taking a bottle of water out of her purse.

"I appreciate it. Thank you, ma'am." He said taking the bottle and without his lips making contact with it he poured some water into his mouth, and gave it to her. He tilted his head up and  gurgled the water in his mouth, then he spitted it. Wiping his mouth he said, "Thank you."

"No problem." She placed the bottle back in her purse.

The people continued to chatter, there was still crying and sobbing around. It really felt like the end...but people weren't killing eachother.
