A slight note before we start, L would be a little younger in this fanfic:) Say about one or two years older than Light.

"The recent number of heart attacks have been drastically increasing. It has been 53 this week! We need to do something about this!" The chief shouted, slamming his hands onto the wooden pedestal. I winced. Poor pedestal.
Chatters arouse at his statement, the volume increasingly getting louder. "Silence!" He shouted yet again, causing the police officers to shut their mouths, turning their attention back to him. I folded my arms, leaning back against the chair as I quietly listened to what the officer has to say. You would think adults would be better at behaving themselves than students but no. They're just as rowdy and chaotic as we are.
Oh sorry, did I forget to mention? I am in highschool, but is currently an intern at the police station. I want to be an officer when I grow up, if that wasnt obvious enough. "Pay attention now, Ki chan." Matsuda, my mentor, said from beside me. I rolled my eyes. He was the one that kept using his phone in the middle of the session.
"But first,we have to decide if it is murder or coincidence!" The short pudgey man stood up.
"Or a new disease we haven't heard of." I spoke up. But did anybody listen? No, of course not. "Its okay, don't listen to the new girl." I grumbled, Matsuda patting my back reassuringly.
"Which is why," The chief continued, "We need the help of L. The world's greatest detective."
"Chief, what is L?" Matsuda asked the chief Yagami who was in charge of our section.
"No one knows what L looks, lives or likes. He has managed to solve every single case given to him. He is our trump card, our ace in the hole. Our last hope." Chief Yagami explained, lacing his fingers together.
Well this has become slightly more interesting. I mused, leaning forward as a suspicious character wearing a black trench coat and a hat carried in a laptop.
A man. I concluded. Between his 60s or 70s. He set it down, flipping the screen open. Almost immediately, the projector flickered to life. An image of a cursive L appeared on the screen, static going through it occasionally."Members of the ICPO." An altered voice was heard throughout the room.
"I am L."<........................<
The meeting was adjourned, after there was a short QandA section with L. We were back in our specific section rooms, staring at the tv screen in front of us.
"We have interrupted this programme to give you a special message." The screen flickered and a guy with broad shoulders appeared. "I am Lind L.Tailor." The man spoke with a deep voice. "Otherwise known as L.""What?" The officers mumbled, shocked. "L has never shown his face before right?"
"It means that L is serious." The chief said. I shook my head, then noticed a part of the group was staring at me. I shifted uncomfortably. "I mean, L has never shown his face in public before. Why now? It doesn't make sense. It's not like this case is something special, it involves murder just like any other case. That's not L." I explained. Some of the officers agreed, while some muttered about how the intern doesent know anything. I rolled my eyes and sighed.
"I can understand why you are doing this. But what you are doing is....evil."
I thought back to my previous research, remembering that all the criminals that died had only one thing in common: Their names and faces were shown to the public.
"That man is going to die." I mumbled.
"What makes you say that?" Questioned Matsuda.
"All of the victims have been shown on television and had their names on screen. Same for this guy. He doesen't approve of Kira and he is gonna die." Matsuda looked at me doubtfully, before returning his eyes to the screen.
"The entire world is watching. If anyone defies me-" The man suddenly stopped. He began clutching the fabric of his shirt, writhing around in pain. A few seconds later, he slumped down onto the table, dead.
I frowned. "Told you." Matsuda gasped, staring at me unbelievingly.
The L we saw before came back into the screen."U-Unbelievable. I had to check for myself, but...Kira. It seems you do not need to be in direct contact with the person to kill. You just killed a man which was due to be executed today. It wasn't me. But I, L do exist! So come on, try and kill me!"
"What's going on? This is suicidal!" A man panicked, eyes wide. "Do it! Kill me! Try and kill me!" There was silence for a while. "What's the matter? Can't do it? You have given me a large hint. In return, let me tell you something. This was only broadcasted in the kanto region of Japan. Now I know what you need to kill and where you are. Until next time.....Kira." The screen went static.
A smirk slowly crept onto my face. L had helped me to confirm my suspicions that Kira indeed needed a face and a name to kill. It would be fun working with this guy.
The members in the room went silent. Chief cleared his throat. "Well, lets be seated and begin the meeting."
I sat beside Matsuda, listening to all the reports. In conclusion, the times of death have been at 8-12pm on weekdays, and exceptions on weekends.
"What are your thoughts on this?" Matsuda whispered to me quietly, as that is kind of his job, you know, to see if im actually worth to be in the force.I thought for a while. "Kira is a student. Like me." My voice was louder than I thought, unintentionally catching the chief's attention. He raised an eyebrow, not taking me seriously.
L's voice was heard. "I have come to the same conclusion. Tell me, why is that so?" I blinked. Was L actually talking to me? Matsuda slapped my back, causing the words to tumble out of ny mouth.
"Um well, I am a high schooler, and we usually get released earlier, but Kira is the genius type of person who would take cram school, and when we get home, it would be around 8. Also, we would be free on the weekends, unlike adults who would still be going to work."
L was silent for a few seconds, then spoke. "I see." I shut my mouth, banging my head on Matsuda's shoulder, embarrassed by the attention I was getting. He chuckled, patting me on the head.
L said a few more words, before exiting. We stood up, leaving the room to go home. "Bye Matsuda." I bowed slightly, slinging my bag onto my shoulder. He waved, smiling. "See you tomorrow. And straighten your back!" He pushed my spine up. I gave him a disgruntled expression, slouching back down.
"Its uncomfortable." I stated plainly, giving another glance at the blank computer screen before leaving the room.
Man, I still have homework to do. Oh well. Time to think up of another excuse!
