Never Again Chapter 12

5 hours later and im still not done. I yawned, thumping my head lightly to get rid of my drowsiness. I had gone through 25 schools and none of them had the girl I saw. The task force were all going through the evidence, most drinking coffee to stay awake. I sipped my tea, setting it down onto the table and started on another school. Looks like I have to pull another all-nighter.

I AM DONE. I almost cried with happiness, exiting the tab and slumping back against the chair. I stood up, immediately wincing at the stiffness of my butt. "I found nothing, Ryuzaki." I reported, limping over to him.

"I thought so. Please go through these tapes with me after you get back from school." He nodded to a stack of tapes on the table. School. Crap. I groaned, dragging my feet to the bathroom to get ready.

I slugged into the class, slowly lowering myself onto the seat and slided down almost immediately. My head fell onto the desk and I willed myself to go to sleep, but to no avail. Why can't I go to sleep when I need to?!

I groaned, sitting upright in a rigid position. I didn't move a muscle, just stared straight ahead with my eyelids halfway closed. "Hey Naoki!" A cheerful voice came from beside me.

"Shut up." I told it, tilting my head slightly to glare at him. Light frowned, but didn't get the hint. "Why are you so grumpy?" He asked, sitting beside me.

"Im not grumpy!" I shouted, fully turning to glare at him head on. He blinked. "Right."

I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms on the table and ignored him.

A few minutes later

"The Pythagoreon Triplets are 3,5 and 7. What is the next set..." I could feel my eyelids drooping and I slowly but surely lulled myself to sleep using the teacher's monotone voice. My head nodded off, supported by the palm of my hand.
Time skip

"Naoki, its time to go."

"Please uru the sai." I grumbled, burying my head deeper. I felt someone tugging on my arm.

"If you want to keep that hand I suggest you let me go." I threatened, very annoyed with everyone right now.

The tugging didn't stop. I growled, biting the arm and glared up at Light. He yelped, quickly withdrawing his arm and cleaning my saliva off.

"Didn't get enough sleep?" He asked sympathetically, giving up on getting me to stand. I shook my head, peeking one eye out to keep an eye on him. "No sleep at all." I corrected.

He frowned. "But we still need to go. You can rest at the hotel later."

After a lot of whining and biting, Light finally got my ass into the building where L was currently residing.

"Oh, good timing Light, Naoki." I heard, once we stepped into the room. "The second Kira has replied."

We all crowded around the computer, listening carefully.

"I will not contact Kira. I will share my power with those who are worthy and gain Kira's approval by-" The television suddenly switched off. I glanced down at the man sitting before me questioningly. I wanted to hear that part..

"Watching this, it makes me feel like the second Kira and Kira have joined forces." L mumbled, grabbing a powder donut from a box. "What makes you say that?" Light asked, and I stared at him in disbelief. Was it not obvious? "First of all, his attitude towards meeting Kira changed and he wanted to gain Kira's approval. Why didn't he do this before? My assumption is that Kira and the second Kira has joined forces and told him to do so."

"However, this has lessened my suspicions on Light." What?! My head shot up, at the same time as Mr Yagami's, but for completely different reasons. "If it were Light, he would have threatened me into appearing onto television again." L explained, licking the sugar of the donut. "Furthermore," L continued as Light stood speechless.

"I wouldn't want Light to be Kira. After all, he is my first friend."

I raised an eyebrow. Wow thanks L.
What am I then? Chopped liver?

Light hmm'ed, and I frowned. What, he doesen't feel honoured to have L as his friend? I voiced out my thoughts, letting out a slight huff. "No, its just that I can't really see L having a you know...social life." Light responded cheekily. I narrowed my eyes. "What?"

He laughed at my expression. "Calm down, I was just joking. Its not like you have one either."

"Shut up!" I shouted, breathing heavily as I glared at him, my lack of sleep taking over me. I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder and I whirled around, before softening my eyes when I saw L staring back at me. "Calm down." He muttered, releasing my shoulder.

"Did something happen?" Aizawa asked, blinking at me. "She didn't sleep." Light whispered back to him.

He stared at me dumbfounded. "Thats it?!" I growled at him slightly, my bangs shielding my eyes.

"N-Naoki, I think its better for.." Matsuda glanced around the room nervously "..for all of us if you get some sleep." I heaved a breath, before nodding reluctantly.

I'd know when im not needed.

Not needed anymore.
