''At the end of the day, its another day over'' Jehan, Grantaire and Feuilly were whispering together  at the back of the Musain. It was unusually quiet for a Saturday. All of the amis, minus Combeferre, were attending some sort of talk outside General Lamarque's house. Enjolras and Marius had been planning for it all afternoon; practising speeches and whatnot. Combeferre was studying for a test he had to take on Monday. Jehan was trying to convince Feuilly that his job wasn't so bad and Grantaire was clutching a bottle filled with some type of liquor.

''And there's enough in your pocket to last for a week.'' Jehan told Feuilly

''Once you've done everything else like pay the landlord, had a few glasses of wine here. Then you keep on working again.'' Feuilly grumbled. He was not happy at the moment because he hated being the only ami who was a workingman instead of a student. He felt like he had such a big pressure on him that no-one else felt.

''Also, at the end of the day you're another day older. I don't want to get older, its one day less to be living! Now will you agree that my job is awful?''

''No. Its a job that keeps you in a bed with more food than just crumbs on the table.'' Jehan slammed his fist on the table.

''At the end of the day...''

''You're another day colder.'' Joly stumbled in, his scarf wrapped firmly around his nose. ''Why did we have a meeting when its practically snowing outside?? I'll catch the flu if I'm not careful.'' He wandered off to the bar to buy a drink, just as the rest of the boys barged through the doors.

''So much for a quite night.'' Jehan muttered as swearing and shouting from the boys drifted over to them, just as Sophie arrived.

''Why we had to have a meeting at night in the freezing wind, I do not know.'' She huffed. ''What are we talking about?''

''You sound just like Joly, he's already been over here wittering on about the flu.''

''One day nearer to dying.'' Grantaire looked up from his bottle with sad eyes. The others stared at him. ''The winter* is coming on fast ready to kill.'' He slumped back down in his chair and took another swig from his bottle. Sophie raised her eyes;

''Don't let Joly here you say... COMBEFERRE!!'' She rushed off towards the door, curls flying, to tackle him in a hug.

''Not again...'' Feuilly muttered, ''Everyone has a better life than me.''

''Well that is certainly not true; there's a hunger in the land and...''

''A reckon that still needs to be reckoned.'' Jehan's favourite phrase was finished by Marius as he wandered over with Eponine in tow. Jehan glared at him.

''There are starving children on the streets and the righteous hurry past, they don't hear the little ones crying.'' Grantaire sat upright again to deliver this piece of news. Sophie and Combeferre walked over.

'At the end of the day.'' Marius spoke up. ''There's another day dawning.''

''Like the sun in the morning is waiting to rise.'' Finished Eponine. It was blatantly obvious that she was in love with Marius, and nobody understood why he couldn't see it.

''My job isn't all that bad, I guess.'' Feuilly admitted after a few moments. Jehan looked smug.

''Told you so!'' He sounded too gleeful, ''Enjolras, how was the meeting?''

''Well,'' Enjolras started, but he was not able to finish because six pairs of hands had knocked Jehan into the ground.

''Idiot.''
