It's funny how things can change so quickly. Up until now, I would have been the one to calms Ronnie down, to call her brother, and make sure she got home; a duty quickly taken up by Chanyeol.
Chanyeol, my boyfriend, who would have never left me alone at a restaurant because he was far too clingy to attempt that sort of thing. My boyfriend. He wasn't even planning on telling me he was leaving if I hadn't come outside. Like I said, it's funny, right?
I could be just be overreacting. He was being kind and helping her. Don't you want your best friend to get home safely? Of course I did, how could I say no? I knew he was doing what he normally did, caring. That was what I loved about him. But that didn't stop my stomach from twisting as I watched Baekhyun's toy of a car drive down the street until it disappeared.
"Excuse me." A higher pitched voice and a soft tap on the shoulder brought me from my thoughts to reality. I turned and our waiter stood before me, his pale face a mask of concern. "Your boyfriend is waiting on you. Is everything okay?"
His expression turned wide-eyed in a way that reminded me of a child and I forced a small smile. "Everything is fine," I whispered, moving past him back into the cool restaurant.
Kyungsoo was sitting in the same spot, eating the pork that was grilling before him like nothing had happened. Meanwhile, I could hear the scattered whispers of everyone else who witnessed everything, their eyes moving back and forth between Kyungsoo and I. It was irritating to say the least.
Two more soju glasses were placed on the table in addition to the one Ronnie emptied just before she stormed out. I watched as her boyfriend tipped the green bottle, filling the glass to the rim, and bringing it up to his plump lips. He didn't notice me until I sat down next to him; even then he stayed silent, his chocolate eyes scanning me, calculating what he would say.
"You should eat," he said, finally. Eat? I was hungry, but seeing Chanyeol leaving with Ronnie squelched my desire for any food. A sigh escaped his lips and he picked up a piece of meat, offering it to me. "There really isn't any sense in wasting food I'll have to pay for. Eat."
I took the pork from between his chopsticks and popped it in my mouth. It was juicy—he had cooked it for just the right amount of time—and slightly spicy. I eyed the soju glass that hadn't been used, wanting to chase the meat with alcohol, but I stopped myself. It looked like Kyungsoo was drinking enough for the both of us. He had already downed the remainder of soju that Ronnie ordered and was now working on another.
"You shouldn't drink so much."
He chuckled, a scratchy low chuckle, the kind you get from the burn of alcohol traveling down your throat. "Look at us, we've gotten to the point that we're telling each other what we should and shouldn't do." He looked away. "I don't need your advice. We barely know each other."
"That didn't stop you from taking those pictures."
Kyungsoo looks back at me and there's a glint in his eyes, his gaze unwavering. I could see his jaw clenching and unclenching. "You can leave, you know. No one is asking you to stay." Every inch of me is saying the same. I could leave his drunk ass here and forget this ever happened. But I'd be leaving him with no way to get home. He was too drunk to drive. "Ronnie probably needs you doesn't she?"
Ha. Ronnie doesn't need me. She has Chanyeol. "You're drunk. You need someone to take you home."
"I don't need anything from you." He spoke like a robot, void of any sort of emotion. Rising from the table, he stood up only to stumble back into the table, almost knocking the bottles of soju over. The tips of his ears reddened in either anger or embarrassment and he looked at the floor, refusing to meet my eyes. "Fine."
