Lux's P.O.V.

Steven and I left the cabin early this morning. We didn't want to wake Scott and Angelique so we snuck out of the house and left. When we arrived back at David's house Steven dropped me off and told me he'll be back in a week's time. He has something to do and that it shouldn't take too long. It happened so fast that I'm still trying to figure out what just happened.

"How was the week alone with Steven?" David asked leaning on the door frame.

"It was good, I got to meet Scott yesterday. His wife was such a nice girl," I replied.

"You met Angelique?" He asked suprised.

"Yeah she's not that much older than me," I frowned.

"Yeah anyways where is Steven?" David asked.

"It don't know, he just told me that he has to do something and that he'll be back in a week's time. I'm still trying to figure out where he went," I explained unpacking my suitcase.

"Don't worry too much about it, he'll tell you about it when he gets back. Anyways I just came to tell you that my ex wife will join us for dinner tonight. She has something important to tell us," he stated. I wonder what it is because I have a lot of unanswered questions for her and Steven.

"Okay I'll keep that in mind," I smiled and continued to unpack my suitcase.

I spent most of the day in my room just laying on my bed catching up on my reading. It's funny how I just get dropped off and given so little information about what's going on and worrying my ass off about Steven. Yes I'm one of those people who worry about everything. The hours went by quickly and before I knew it, it was time for dinner. I made my way down to the dining room where I found Mia and David deep in a conversation.

"Sorry I'm late, I lost track of time," I said taking a seat across from Mia.

"That's quite alright dear we haven't started eating yet," Mia assured me.

"Okay, thanks," I smiled at her.

"Okay the reason I'm here is mostly to talk to you Lux. Steven called me early this morning and asked me to tell you the McNally family secret," she said making sure I was listening.

"McNally family secret?" This was too confusing what is she talking about?

"My father inherited a gang from my grandparents when he was twenty four years old. After he married my mom and all of us came along we were all involved in the gang. We all had to learn how to fight to protect ourselves and our loved ones. When a McNally gets married their spouse joins the gang and so does their children. Steven is part of the gang and has been since the age of eleven. Since you are Steven's future you have to become part of the gang. Steven had Zach join too with the additional costs of training him. You of course will be trained too and so will Angelique. If you don't join you can potentially endanger Steven since he'll be too distracted by protecting you. All the McNally family members are a part of this gang and they all have someone to protect. We have recently received information that our rivalry gang is planing an attack but we don't know when. Scott is next in line to take over the gang once my father retires. He asked that Steven would get all the cousins and meet him at a safe house to leave their loved ones there and prepare to fight. You, Josh, Angelique and many other people will be left there under my sister and I's protection until everything has been resolved," she explained.

"I'll join," was all I said before turning my attention to David.

"Will Josh join the gang when he's old enough to?" I asked. I found it a bit one sided, what if you didn't want to join when you were elven? We're you forced to or do you have a choice?

"Yes but only if he wants to, we usually tell them about the dangers of being in the gang. He might want his friends or something to join too but there's laws that state you're responsible for their lives. Steven has to protect Zach even if Zach is capable of protecting himself. The McNally gang has rules and laws and you'll have to learn them," David explained. Oh man this is a lot to take in. Now I understand everything, this is why he was so weird this morning. He has a quest to complete and he can't come back until it is done.

"There is additional members in the gang that were not born McNally. My father had a friend who joined when he took over control. This friend had his own family join and this is how the gang expanded. So you'll be meeting a lot of new people," she stated. Wow sounds like a large number of people. I don't know how to feel about this.

"When will Steven be back?" I felt overwhelmed with all of this and I just really wanted to talk to Steven. I get that he's busy with his quest but I really need him. What have I gotten myself into?

"He'll be back in two days time, maybe more depending on how easy it's gonna be getting everyone together," said David just as dinner arrived.

"Why does he have to get everyone together? I don't understand why all of them are split up," I was curious because some of this still made no sense.

"A few years ago we lost someone who meant a lot to the gang. She put a smile on everyone's face. My daughter never joined the gang since she was still so young but everyone still loved her and visited her. After she died we all decided to go our separate ways. That's why Steven has to go get everyone, only Scott and he knows of the rivalry gang since it's Scott's duty to know," Mia explained.

"Why don't you guys just give people a call instead of going to look for them personally?" This was what confused me the most.

"The rivalry gang doesn't know that we know they're planning to attack. If we use our phones they'll know and we can't risk it. If we surprise them then it'll be easier to fight them," David spoke eating his food.

"Lux I know that this is a lot to take in but you have to listen to me. David is your protection until Steven gets back, you have to stay close to him at all times. Do you understand?" Mia asked.

"Yes," I replied looking down at my own plate. I had lost my appetite and I couldn't stop thinking about all of this. This was really happening to me, and I thought life as a foster kid was hard.
