Unfortunately, Ahsoka wasn't quite so ready for Kanan to fight anyone.

"Kanan, no!" She grabbed his arm and pulled him down a side corridor to their right.

He struggled in her strong grip. "Ahsoka–" His lightsaber was still activated, swinging precariously around the hall as they ran. He heard his son yell. "I'm going after them!"

"We have to get to Ezra," she reminded him, continuing to run. "We don't have time to duel anyone."

"I am NOT leaving without Dev!" Kanan's voice rose.

Ahsoka turned to him, still pulling him down the hallway. "Kanan, I–"

A familiar sound behind them.

Kanan would never forget it, even if he was a hundred years old.

That sound had earned the kid his scars.

"Duck!" Kanan shouted and yanked the other Jedi to the ground. A red lightsaber whizzed over their heads, boomeranging around to land in someone's palm. Kanan pushed himself up and faced Dev, who was bare metres away, lightsaber glowing in his right hand.

"Dev, stop this," Kanan commanded.

The boy smiled crookedly. "You can't give me orders anymore, Dad." He leaped suddenly, lightsaber swinging, and Kanan tried desperately to throw his own lightsaber up in time to block it.

A strong arm pulled him away and down the hallway before Dev could chop him in half.

"Move!" Ahsoka yelled and the two Jedi raced down the hallway, Dev in hot pursuit.

"Where are we going?" Kanan asked.

"I sensed Ezra! Just for a quick second, but it was enough. We're going to where he is."

"Which is?"

"We'll find out when we get there."

"We can't just keep running!" Kanan protested. "We need a plan!"

"We had one! And it changed!" Ahsoka replied, racing around a corner, hand still grabbing Kanan's wrist.

"I can run on my own, you know."

"Kanan, you know I trust you, but I don't trust you not to stop and fight or to go back," Ahsoka smiled slightly.

Kanan sensed it a moment too late. "Stop!"

"See?" Ahsoka cried as he tugged her backwards, forcing them both to come to an abrupt halt.

Directly ahead of them, a blast door slammed shut. If they had continued running for maybe a second more, they would have been cleaved in half, Ahsoka realized. She looked at her rescuer. "Thanks." She panted.

"No problem. But what now?" Kanan turned around, knowing his son would be right there in a moment.

"Well Kanan, I guess you get to fight after all." Ahsoka said, holding her blaster that Sabine had scavenged for her at the ready. "I'm not sure how much help I'm going to be without my lightsabers, but I'll try to stun him."

Kanan nodded as Dev rounded the corner in a full-on sprint.

"We're not finished yet!" Dev growled, stopping a few metres away from them, teeth bared in a ferocious grin.
