Merry belated Christmas, or whatever you celebrate!!! 😄 🎄And here's a gift from me, although unfortunately, it's not the release of the sequel. I'm terribly sorry. I'm really trying, guys. Just bear with me.

"I don't like being so close to the Sith. The dark side is strong here. I'm worried that it's affecting you." Kanan admitted. Genuine concern shone in his bright eyes. Dev ignored it.

I'm not a Sith. I'm not on the dark side. I haven't used it in years anyway. It can't touch me.

But still, he felt the familiar pull of greed, of power, of the dark side all around him.

It was painful, awful.

It was invigorating, tempting.

A familiar energy of power.

"Would you just relax? I'm not a Sith. The dark side hasn't done anything to me. I'm an adult now, Dad. When are you going to trust me?" Dev turned away angrily, his hands curling into tight fists as he spoke.

"When you stop acting like a child."

The words hit Dev like a flying speeder, and he staggered back a few feet. Darth Vader had said nearly the exact same thing, during a training session in which he was already on the dark side. Dev had made some wise-crack at a dumb training droid that had slammed into the wall by itself, and he had been rewarded with a Force smack and a reprimand.

Now, he stared at Kanan, his face paling. His father was nothing like Vader. He had resisted the dark side time and time again. He had saved all of them from it.

But that was hardly a comfort.

His father seemed to realize the impact of his words. "Vader said something like that, didn't he?"

Dev turned away, his back to Kanan now, crossing his arms.

His dad had always been able to see through him.

"I'm sorry, Dev," Kanan said gently. Dev felt a hand on his shoulder, but in a different way than earlier. "I'm just worried about you. Vader messed us all up badly."

"I know," Dev replied quietly.

He straightened up. "But there's no reason to worry, Dad. I'm fine, I swear."

But as he turned around, Dev saw a flash in his father's face before he erased it.

Kanan didn't believe a word of his lies.
