Chapter Nineteen:

Done

"Are you sure you can do this alone?" Harry asked me for the millionth time and yet again I assured him I would be fine. It was the day after our small blow out that ended in a kiss and Harry had his heart set on me resigning from the 21 Club. I wanted to quit the terrible place more than anything, but as long as El and Dani were working there, it didn't feel right for me to leave. And I need to pay my bail, and the more money I take in, the faster I can do that. Also, the fact that the club came and loaned me the money for my bail for the purpose that I would work there... The thought hasn't occurred to me that maybe it wouldn't be possible to quit and I'd be stuck there whether I liked it or not...

I tried my hardest to put the worst of the thoughts in the back of my mind and attempt to focus solely on what I was going to say when I got there. The more I thought about it, the more nervous I became. Maybe I would be cursed out or hit and abused? My heart pounded against my chest.

I tried my hardest to let my discontent be internal and not let it show on the outside, but Harry had this funny way of reading me. Without taking his eyes off the road, he reached for my hand, initiating the sparks in my head.

"It's going to be okay." He assured me, and I nodded my head. After some silence, we arrived at the 21 Club. Harry pulled into the lot, parked his car close to the employee entrance, and turned to face me.

"You can do this." He coached me. For a second, I believed him, but then I returned back to being scared. My eyes floated to the floor of the car.

"Can you go with me?" I almost whispered and looked up to him. His perfect lips were curved into a slight smile.

"I asked if you wanted me to go with you all day and you kept saying no." He replied, maintaining the smirk.

"Well, I changed my mind. Lets get this over with." I demanded with some sass. With that, Harry and I jumped out of the car and began to walk up to the employee entrance. Maybe it will be my last time walking along this path to enter that door..

..

We made our way inside, and what I saw was nothing outside of the normal. Girls were getting ready, putting on clothes, decorating themselves with makeup, and fixing up their hair. They all continued to do that in the dark backstage area... Until they saw Harry.

All the girls stopped what they were doing and let their eyes turn to him. It was a strange thing for a guy that doesn't work there to be backstage before a show. I looked to Harry who was now the center of attention in here. He awkwardly smiled and waved, but couldn't find it in himself to move a muscle while the mass of girls were looking at him. I inched my way closer to my friend and whispered to him in a hushed tone, "They're not used to this, it's a girls only place." It was true, a guy stepping into the backstage area was like one wandering into the women's bathroom. Just awkward and out of the normal.

The only guys that ever were in the backstage changing facility would be the men that worked for the club. They'd crankily tell us how much time we had, forcefully pull us to get us on the stage, or check us out and make terrible moves on us. But, those men were to be expected.

I took Harry's hand and began to squeeze through the tons of different girls until we found ourselves in the back of the area, away from all of the girls.

"Where do we go?" Harry asked, I let out a small shrug.

"The owner of the club I guess. I've never really talked to him before... But he can't be a good guy. I think his office is down this hallway." I explained. I began to walk towards where I believed the owner's office was and Harry followed close behind. It was only then when I realized that we were still holding hands...
