Clad in only one of Adam's shirts and a pair of spandex with the incredible music of Frank Sinatra playing throughout the house, I moved from room to room, cleaning anything and everything I could in preparation for the visit from his parents. He had been out with the guys since early this morning, so I was left to work by myself.
The next, and thankfully the last, place I had to clean was the living room. Mine and Adam's cat, Max, was following me anywhere I went, rubbing and purring along my legs. I tripped over him more than enough times and I was getting a little irritated, so I started up a mechanical mouse for him to chase around. As I moved throughout the space, a high shelf along one of the walls seemed to taunt me every step I took.
Being so much shorter than Adam definitely had its disadvantages, especially not being able to reach in most places of our house. Needing to climb up onto counters just for a cup or plate, not being able to reach certain machines in the gym, always having to look up to talk to my own boyfriend, and, the worst one, often being questioned about dating Adam just because of my height. You look too young to be dating him or I didn't know Adam had a sister.
After about twenty minutes of avoiding the shelf, I decided to grab a step-stool and face my awaiting challenge. I looked up at it and narrowed my eyes. I bet he put that up that high just to be a jerk.
I got up onto the stool and sighed heavily. "It should not be that hard to clean a damn shelf,"
"No, it shouldn't, but it obviously is for you," Adam laughed from behind me.
His voice was unexpected, making me jump and place my hands on the wall to keep myself steady.
"It's so nice that you were able to join me in cleaning our house for your parent's visit after I'm practically already done with everything," I smiled sarcastically.
"The guys wanted me to stay to watch the Yankees game," he shrugged, placing his hands on my hips.
I scoffed. "I don't understand how in the hell you watch those games,"
"Sorry little miss Dodgers fan," he teased, pulling me in for a kiss.
I leaned away after awhile and tugged at his hair. "I really like being up this high. I don't have to stand on the tips of my toes to kiss you,"
"And I don't have to break my back," he joked "but in all honesty, I like you being your normal height. That's part of what makes you who you are,"
"Wow," I grinned "what's got you all sappy today?"
"Nothing in particular," he turned away from me "wanna ride?"
I nodded and jumped on his back, wrapping my legs around his waist and throwing my arms over his shoulders. His hands came under me to grip my thighs and I kissed the back of his neck, humming contently.
He walked us to our room and dropped me on the bed, flopping down next to me after he kicked his shoes off.
"I know you love your job and all and I love seeing you play, but nothing makes me happier than being able to have alone time with you. Especially without the stress of games," I rolled over and rested my head on his chest.
"There's nothing that I love more than being with you," he squeezed me tighter.
"Stop," I groaned "you're being so cheesy today. That's usually my job. I can't handle it,"
The corners of his lips tugged upwards slightly. "I just... I don't know, I don't always outwardly appreciate how lucky I am to have such an amazing girlfriend, you know? How much you've supported me through everything, how you've supported me through this trade, I don't understand how you do it,"
I sat up on my elbow and looked down at his flushed face, running my knuckles down his jaw softly. "I do it because I love you. You know that, yeah? We've both made a lot of big sacrifices for each other and we've made them with confidence because we don't see each other being with anyone else,"
He looked up at me with shining eyes and hugged me close to him. "I don't know what I would ever do without you,"
