My fingers traced over my stomach and arms, my face flushing color at the many marks scattering across my skin. My eyes moved quickly around every part of my body, stopping every time I got to an area I didn't like and prodding at it.

It was quite ironic. David told me one of his favorite things about me was my confidence. And here I was standing in front of a mirror picking out every single little detail about myself.

"(Y/N), are you almost ready?"

I broke from my thoughts, giving myself a quick once over before nodding stiffly. I grabbed the beach bag from the bed and adjusted my shirt, slipping on a pair of sandals before meeting David by the door.

We arrived at the beach about fifteen minutes later, being greeted by a couple of David's friends and their girlfriends. They all immediately headed towards the water. I bit the inside of my cheek and walked over to an open area of the beach, laying out a towel and setting my stuff down.

Just as I was going to sit down, I heard David calling me. I tilted my head up to look at him. He was waving me over, the rest of them waiting for me as well. I just shook my head, giving a small smile. I pulled out headphones, not missing the look of confusion on David's face.

No one bothered me for quite a while, the occasional volleyball or football coming near me, but being picked up just as fast as it dropped. A very nice older couple sat by me for a bit, but they left to walk along the water.

When the next song on my phone started, both of my earbuds were pulled away from me. I whipped my head up, seeing David with a smile on his face.

I rolled my eyes. "That's okay. It's not like I was listening to music or anything,"

"Why are you just sitting here all alone? We came to the beach. You should be in the water for a little bit," he tugged at my arm.

"Just because we're at the beach doesn't mean I have to be in the water," I stated "I'm fine sitting under the sun listening to music and thinking about life, thank you very much,"

He frowned. "You love the water, though. You're always the first one in when we come any other time. Are you not feeling well?"

"Just a little headache," I shrugged, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

David sat next to me and wrapped an arm around my waist, placing a kiss to my temple. "You're lying," he whispered.

I rested my head on his shoulder and nodded. "I just didn't feel the best about myself today. It's nothing to worry about. Everyone has these kind of days,"

"They do, but that doesn't mean it's not something to worry about," he looked down at me "I'm always here for you if you need anything, okay? I don't care what it is or how stupid you think it is. Nothing that comes from you is stupid,"

A small smile formed on my face and I pecked his lips. "Thank you, baby,"

"No problem, sweetheart,"

I placed my head back on his shoulder and hummed the tune of the last song I had listened to, sighing contently as he rubbed circles on my skin under my shirt. His hand moved higher up my back until his fingers tugged quickly at the clip hooking my bikini top together. He bolted up and ran towards the water, leaving me with my jaw dropped.

"David, you asshole!" I laughed, trying my best to secure the ends together again without being seen.

He held his hands up defensively. "You're wearing a shirt at least!"

"I would've kicked your ass by now if you did that while I wasn't wearing a shirt!" I shouted, gaining the attention of his friends.

They all gave us weird looks, none of them knowing what had happened. I stood up after I got it and ran towards David. He moved further into the water, holding his arms out. I stopped at the edge of the water and shrugged to myself, stepping forward deeper into the ocean. By the time I had reached David, the water rose to the top of my belly button. It was barely reaching David's hips.

"Why does it not surprise me you would come into the water with all your clothes on?" he laughed, pushing his sunglasses onto the top of his head.

"Hey, I should be in the water for a little bit," I mocked, hands on hips.

He arched an eyebrow before lunging at me, knocking the both of us under the water. I came up and splashed water at him, twisting my sunglasses out of my hair.

"Are you really wanting to start this? Because once you're in, you don't leave without being defeated,"
