"I don't know why he did it..." I whimpered into my pillow.
Mitch sighed and turned my head to look at him. His hands wiped the tears off my cheeks and I leaned into his touch.
"(Y/N), he wasn't worth it. You deserve so much better than someone like him... You're a smart, funny, beautiful girl and any guy would be lucky to have you. He's not worth your tears,"
I knew he was trying to make me feel better, but it was hard to get over something like this. We had been on three dates. Three dates. And he dumps me for some waitress!
Mitch got up from the bed and I looked over at him to see him tapping away on his phone.
"Mitchie? What are you doing?"
He leaned down and kissed my forehead.
"I'll be right back, okay? I promise," he said softly.
I nodded slightly, confused at his actions. He walked out the door and out the front door. I got up and looked out my bedroom window to see McDavid's truck outside. Connor pointed towards the window once Mitch got inside. He looked up at me and I saw him wink then wave at me as the truck started down the street.
I couldn't help but wonder where he had went at a time like this and why he needed Connor with him, but I brushed it off, not wanting to upset myself more.
I flopped down on the bed and closed my eyes, exhausted from the crying.

Connor's POV
"Dude, are you sure he won't like, call the cops on us or anything?"
"Connor, all we did was talk to him. If I knew you were going to worry this much, I would have brought Graham," he rubbed at his eyes, smiling.
"You actually threatened him, but whatever," I laughed "and if you had brought Graham, he would have punched the guy in the face, so be thankful that he's out of town right now,"
"I just feel so bad for her, you know? Trust me, I know what it's like to have a broken heart,"
"And she helped you through your rough time, so you have to help her through hers," I told him.
"Can we stop at the store real quick? I have to pick up a few things," he asked me.
I nodded and shook my head with a grin on my face.
"What?" He looked at me.
"I know you like her, Marner. It's pretty hard to miss,"
He scoffed lightly and out the corner of my eye, I saw him looking out the window with a smile on his face.
(Y/N)'s POV
I had been awake for a while now, the continuous strikes of lightning illuminating the house as well as the booming thunder waking me up from my peaceful sleep.
After changing into a pair of sweatpants and one of Mitch's hoodies, I went into the living room, turning on the movie 'Ouija.' I cuddled up on the couch and patted the cushion to the left of me, my Pitbull, Ace, jumping up onto it. He laid down and rested his head on my thigh.
The front door opened suddenly and his ears perked up. I pet his head gently, looking over the back of the couch to see Mitch and Connor walking through the door. Connor slammed the front door, making Ace bark. They both went into the kitchen, the sounds of bags rustling caught my attention.
"Mitch? Connor?" I yelled from the couch "Where were you guys?"
"We went to take care of something," Connor called back.
It took them a few minutes to come into the living room and when I did see them, they had changed into basketball shorts and hoodies along with carrying various junk food items in their arms.
"We got food," Mitch greeted, both of them holding up bags of Doritos, a bag of marshmallows, bars of chocolate, and a huge bag of sour gummy worms.
Mitch sat on the right of me and Connor looked down to my left, seeing Ace was taking up the whole area.
"Why does a dog get to take my spot?" he grumbled under his breath, falling back onto the single couch.
Mitch chuckled and threw his arm around me. Goosebumps rose on my skin at his touch and I rubbed at my arms through the fabric.
"Are you cold?" he whispered down to me.
"A little," I lied.
He reached to the ottoman next to him and unfolded the blanket, setting it around my body.
"Thank you,"
He nodded and settled back down on the couch.
**************************
As the movie ended, I saw that Connor had fallen asleep, legs hanging off the side of the seat, basically cuddling the bag of marshmallows.
I giggled at the sight. It must have surprised Mitch because he jumped a bit and looked over at me.
"Thank you for everything, Mitch. I mean it. Staying with me, bringing me food, "talking" to him," I put quotations around talking because, knowing Mitch, he didn't talk very civilized.
"You know I would do anything for you. It's my job to protect you,"
"Even from heartbreak?"
He ducked down and placed his soft lips on mine.
"Especially from heartbreak," he mumbled into the kiss.
