Chapter 4: Strange
Kiko wakes up draped across a chair, her legs swinging over. She groans and sits up. "My head." She mutters, rubbing the back of her head where she hit it. Jeez, I never thought Arbiters could feel pain.
Kiko sees a certain mint-green braided hair walking towards her. "Hello, Kiko, how are you feeling?" She greets, nodding to her head where her hand was.
She sighs. "It's fine, but I do have a couple questions." Kiko says, her eyes completely indifferent and emotionless.
Nona nods and sits down beside her. "Ask away, I was expecting this. A lot happened yesterday." She says with a sigh.
Kiko sits up slowly, a pounding presence in her head. "What happened...yesterday?" She asks cautiously. I can't believe it was a whole day since I've been out. I missed out on a whole day of work! Ugh, I feel bad for the other Arbiters because they got my work. She thinks as Nona comes up with an answer for her question.
Nona finally answers her question. "You started feel emotions, to put it simply. I knew this was going to be a problem, but I didn't think so soon. Since you were created, not born, you were going to eventually break out of your Arbiter self. Basically, I asked my comrades to make you eventually get emotions, so Oculus wouldn't suspect anything. I was assuming it would take a while, but it didn't. Last night started everything." She explains, creases forming on her forehead.
Kiko nods slowly and frowns. "So...I was created, not born like most?" She tried to clarify.
Nona nods. "Yes. Anymore questions?"
Kiko sighs and nods. "Yes. Will the feelings hurt like yours do? And why did you create me?" She asks.
Nona looks away. "No, not as much. But they will hurt. And I created you because I needed you to explain. Decim helped me, even from the beginning, though he may not have understood. Once he said he believed that Arbiters should have feelings to judge humans so we can understand their motives. I made you because you would make perfect decisions, and though Oculus may not like it, I will continue to help you thrive."
Kiko nods and stands up. "I understand. Thank you for explaining." She says, ignoring the throbbing in her head. Ugh. I can't focus on my judgements like this. She thinks, hoping Nona won't stop her.
Of course, Nona does. "No. Don't go. You need to stay here until you don't have that dull headache. Or, you need to stay close to me." She says, grabbing Kiko's thin, tan wrist.
The white-haired Arbiter frowns and sighs. She caves in after a minute. "Fine. But can we go to my bar? I like it there." She says, hoping Nona will understand.
Nona nods. "Sure, whatever." She says, starting to drag Kiko to the elevator.
Clavis, as usual, appears in the doorway. "Hello, ladies, how are you doing this fine day?" He asks, politely.
