Chapter 8: Dream Float
Jake returns Kiko's strange look. "You just did a judgement! How do you not remember?" He asks coldly.
Kiko shrugs. "After each judgement I make, I forget it. It's so I don't ruin the next judgement from the last." She explains, walking away towards the bar.
Jake grabs her wrist and spins her back towards him so she hits his chest. "Why didn't you tell us that sooner?" He questions harshly. His voice has changed from the soft and soothing water to raging fire, burning everything in its path.
Kiko tries to pull away, but she doesn't have Nona's super strength. But she does have her spider silk. She commands the silk to grab Jake, and it pulls him away from her. "You cannot attack me, Jake. I am of higher rank than you." She says calmly but coldly.
Jake hangs limply in the air. "Why, Kiko, why do you have to make such cold decisions?" He asks, surprisingly calm.
Mitch steps in front of Jake. "It's so they can recycle the pure souls, and throw out the bad ones, Jake. Please calm down." He tries to explain to the raging fire.
Jake gives him a flaming look. "Like Hell you'd know! You're a human, just like me, dammit!" He shouts.
Mitch steps back, stepping into Kiko. She pushes Mitch aside, and she looks up at Jake. "I left some papers in your room. They explain everything that we do. Mitch read them, so he would make a better Arbiter than you. Jake, you need to read those papers." She says, ordering him calmly.
Jake hangs his head. "I will. Now please let me down." He says darkly. His fire is starting to calm down, people quenching his rage.
Kiko lets him down, and she starts walking back to the bar. Mitch walks up behind her and grabs her wrist. "Hey, are you alright?" He whispers to her.
Kiko nods. "I am, thank you for your concern." She says, even though there was no way Jake could've hurt her. She's immortal, and she's of higher rank than him.
Mitch's face turns red, and he lets go of her hand, only to rub the back of his neck. "Anyway, are there anymore guests coming?" He asks, trying to change the subject.
Kiko shrugs her shoulders. "I don't know. I don't have a schedule." She says.
A creak of a door grabs Kiko's attention. Ah, he was listening. No surprise there. She thinks as she watches Oculus appear. "Good day, Oculus. Did I do well?" She asks.
Oculus strides to the bar, and he sits down. "Yes, Kiko, you did just fine. I'm surprised you did as well as you did when you weren't notified of a schedule." He says.
Kiko bows deeply. "I'm pleased to be praised by you." She says politely.
Mitch and Jake stand on either side of Kiko, and they bow as well, not knowing what else to do in the presence of the First Boss.
