*JESSI’S POV*

So I’ve been working at this Target in LA to get money for a place for a couple weeks now. I’m on my way to Starbucks to talk with this girl that I’ve become friends with while working there. Her name is Ashton and she seems pretty nice, from what I can tell so far. She’s offering me a room in her apartment that she currently has to herself. So we’re going to negotiate out the workings of this deal over coffee at Starbucks, but I’m hoping that they’ll be reasonable because I’m getting a bit tired of the hotel room I’ve been calling home.

I walked into the Starbucks and got in line to order coffee. “One grande white chocolate mocha cappuccino.” I said to the barista. “Ooo, fancy.” he replied jokingly as he entered it into the machine. I blushed as I handed over the money. A couple minutes later I took my coffee and went to sit at one of the outdoor tables. While I was sitting there waiting a tall guy with red hair walked past talking to a guy with brown hair that was talking to a camera. I only really took notice because I thought that they were both pretty cute, though I think I did notice a glint of sunlight against metal on the left hand of the man talking to the camera as he reached for the door. But a minute later Ashton walked past, she waved and said that she was going to go get her coffee and then she’d be right back. I sat there absently people watching and sipping my drink for a couple of minutes. I watched ginger and camera guy walk out of the shop and off to where ever they were going and as they disappeared around a corner, Ashton appeared behind me and said, “Scoping out the field? Or just people watching?” “Hey!” I said defensively, “They were attention grabbing, the one with a camera in hand and talking, and the other a red head! How can you not wonder about them?” “I was kidding! But hey, this is LA, may not be too out of place.” she replied with a laugh, “Want a cookie?” “Sure.” I said, taking one from the package. “Now let’s get down to business.” she said, sitting across from me and I hoped that this meeting would go fast and scolded myself for choosing the outdoor tables; it was definitely beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.

*An Hour Later*

I walked back into my hotel room home triumphantly, starting to pack my belongings and get ready to head on out. Ashton was going to let me move in. We had settled on a fair split of the rent based off of our pay and we seem to be pretty compatible for roommates. She even said that I could come on over today! I had already seen the apartment a couple times, having had run by yesterday to look around the apartment, but she had her shift at Target right after that, and it was a double, so we decided to meet at the Starbucks since we both had off today. I finish packing and sling my backpack over my shoulder and then pull out the handle of my suitcase so that I can roll it down the hall and to the elevator.

Ashton is waiting in the lobby so she can give me directions there, having had walked to the Starbucks from her apartment. I wave to her and walk up to the front desk to check out, finally. “Leaving so soon Jessi?” the on-duty guy for this shift, Dave, said, smirking. “I wish I could stay in LA longer.” I said, dramatically sighing while he laughed. “I’m guessing you’ve found a place?” he said. “Yeah, I’ve upgraded from paying for my keep both in money and doing odd jobs weekly to paying for my keep monthly, all money.” I said. “Awww…da-rn it.” he said, checking his language as the owner’s kids ran by, “Now who are we going to find with hotel experience to do odd jobs around here?” We both laughed and I said, “You can hire me part-time and I can help out some, you just have to actually give me money instead of just docking it off my room.” “Mmmm, tempting.” Dave said with a smirk, “I could post that idea to the bossman and I’ll get back to you on that. I know I’ll be missing seeing your pretty self around here.” He winked at me and I blushed, then he handed me back my card and a receipt. “Well,” he said, “I guess I’ll get back to work. I’ll give you a call about that job though, depending on what bossman says about it. And then, aside from tha,t I may just give you a call.” “Sounds great.” I said, passing him the pen and the receipt. “Can’t wait to hear from you. I’ll talk to you later. I’ll miss seeing your face too.” He smiled and turned to the next person that had just walked up and I waved Ashton over and we took the elevator down into the parking garage so I could get my car and we could head out.
