01 ; "Well, it's mine now."
AVERY STOOD ON THE sideline of the baseball diamond at school, next to some girls who probably didn't understand the game. She watched as her best friend, Benny, walked up to the home base with a bat in his hands.
Benny looked at her and winked making Avery to turn a bright pink. It became a routine that every time they were playing baseball at or after school, he would wink at her. She had no clue why, but it just happened.
"Oh, my god." A girl whispered from beside her, "Did Benny just wink at me?!" she squealed, but her friends tried to tell her that Benny winked at all of them.
Avery rolled her eyes and focused on Benny, he bent down the bat and hit it on the sides of his shoes, he got into position; the pitcher threw the ball which Benny hit with ease. He started running, hitting almost all the bases, but then he was stuck in the middle of the third and home base.
He ran back and forth as the two boys from the other team threw the ball back and forth. The sandlot team (excluding Avery) ran out into the field, almost distracting the other team. Benny made a run to home base and made it just as the boy next to the base caught the ball.
The sandlot team cheered and so did the girls next to Avery, the blonde just clapped and smiled at her friends. The guys jumped up and down in victory as Benny had his hands on his knees and tried to catch his breath.
Avery giggled as Benny was brought into the jumping group and muttered, "Silly boys."
The girl next to her, who thought Benny winked at her, started to talk to Avery, "Hey, don't you know them?"
Avery nodded her head and raised an eyebrow, "Yeah, I know them, why?"
The girl blushed and had a small grin on her face, "Could you see if Benny likes me? He winked at me earlier if you didn't see it."
Avery bit her lip so she wouldn't laugh, she always found it hilarious when girls tried to get her to ask Benny if he liked them, "I guess so."
"Thank you!" The girl squealed before running off to go talk to her friends about drama and boys.
"Stupid girls." Avery muttered this time while she played with the hem of her baby blue skirt, not noticing that Benny ran over to her.
"Hey, princess." Benny greeted using her nickname he gave her when they first met, Avery jumped slightly before smiling at the boy, "What did that girl want?"
Avery bit her lip and opened her mouth to answer but was cut off by Benny, "She wanted to know if I liked her, because she thought I winked at her."
