Chapter 36

I patiently waited for Ali to come walking, as I did every morning. Only this morning, it was different.

My face etched itself into a wide grin upon seeing my beautiful girlfriend nearing me.

I still couldn't believe it. She was mine. The craziest, funniest, prettiest, and most wonderful girl in the world was mine. I really don't know what I did to deserve such a beauty, yet here I was, the underdog of the story. The awkward new kid was somehow paired with such an amazing girl.

I knew that she never saw the goddess in the mirror that I saw when I look at her, but I was still very sure that I would tell her how beautiful she is as often as I could.

So I thought this morning would be an excellent start.

"Good morning, beautiful," I greeted once she had caught up with me, gently wrapping my arm around her waist and pulling her closer.

She squirmed a bit, giving me a half smile. "Hey," she muttered, looking straight ahead.

Immediately, I knew something was off, as she was practically trying her hardest to distance herself away from me.

"What's wrong, babe?" I asked, my voice laced with the sincerest concern for my girl.

She let out an over-emphasized sigh, lifting a hand to rub very close to my hand's location on her hip, as if she was trying to subtly push my hand away. "Nothing. Just tired," she mumbled half-heartedly.

"I know it's more than just that. Now could you please tell me what's wrong, Al?" I pleaded, my eyes anxiously locked on her smaller frame.

"Ugh," she groaned-- legitimately groaned. "Nothing is wrong, Liam. Chill."

Not to sound like an obnoxious mother or anything, but I really wasn't appreciating the tone she was using. She's snapping at me when I'm just trying to care for her.

"You telling me that nothing is wrong is really making me believe something actually is wrong," I told her, moving my hand to rub small circles on her back.

"Jesus, Liam!" she snapped at me, thrusting her body in the opposite direction, forcing my arm to fall limply at my side. "I said that nothing is wrong, so get it through your damn head that nothing is wrong!"

I just stared at her for a moment, speechless. Was this really my girl, Ali? There is no way that this girl is the girl who I really admire.

"I'm just concerned about you, love," I muttered, interlocking our fingers together.

"Alright," she began, sharply retracting her hand and turning to look at me. "You want to know what's wrong, Liam? You're what's wrong. With the 'love' and the 'babe' to all these stupid ass pet names. I can't take it anymore!"

I stopped dead in my tracks, my eyes gazing down at her as if to ask if she was serious. "Are you seriously pissed at me for acting like a boyfriend?"

"Yes, when I'm forced to hold your hand every second. And God, I saw you every day last weekend, I don't need to walk with you every other second. You're getting to be too much for me, Liam!"
