Chapter 28

"No, you noob, use an assault rifle, not a pistol," I snapped, readjusting the headset that was situated on my head.

"He's right, man, pistols are shit. They barely work up close. The rifle's got better aim," the gravelly voice of my friend Andy boomed through the headset.

Andy was one of my only friends that went to my old school. It sounds sadder than it is, but I didn't really mind it, since he was like a best mate of mine. I'd rather have someone that was so close to me, who I could share everything with, to a bunch of people that I am just acquaintances with.

"Wait, which one's the assault rifle?" the presumably inexperienced guy questioned.

Andy and I let out annoyed groans, cursing the guy out as well. The worst part is that he had actually sounded confused, asking about a simple weapon.

Actually, I think the worst part was that this guy's voice resembled Harry's quite a bit. Not to mention that his username was Thebananagod on Xbox Live.

All of a sudden, my phone vibrated with the noise that signified that I was getting a FaceTime call.

My eyes did a double take as they quickly flickered to see Ali's caller I.D., but had to go back as I had thought I misread it. She never really FaceTimes me unless if absolutely necessary, so I had assumed that this time was absolutely necessary.

"Hey, Andy, I think I'm gonna have to go now. Guess I'll see ya back on Halo later tonight?" I asked him, bringing up the Xbox menu.

"Sure man! Seeya later," he spoke to me before I signed off.

I pulled off the headset, tossing it on my bed beside me. Leaning over, I grabbed my phone from where it was laying and swiped to answer it.

I scooted a bit back on my bed, lifting up my phone.

It made that weird noise it always does before I was connected, and instantly greeted by Ali's beautiful face.

"Hello," I introduced, sending her a little wave with my free hand.

"Hey, Liam," she replied softly, sending me a small smile. Her eyelids seemed to be drooping a bit and her usually vibrant blue eyes dulled with a lack of expression.

"Al, is everything all right?" I questioned her, leaning back against the wall by my bed.

"Does it look like it's not?"

"Yeah, kinda," I admitted, ruffling my hair and biting the corner of my lip.

"Well, I guess you could say that Louis and I are through," she muttered softly.

"What?" I asked, abruptly leaning off the wall to see if I had actually heard her correctly.

"Yeah, I broke up with him today," she continued, pursing up her lips and blinking slowly.

"I'm so sorry to hear that, Ali," I told her, frowning at the news despite the fact that I was throwing a party inside my head.

"Yeah, it's okay, I guess. Things happen and that's just the way it is."

"How has your day been going?" I asked her, scratching the end of my nose.
