After the bell rung we all headed for the locker rooms. I changed into the outfit I had in the morning. I saw that the rest of the girls were wearing what they wore for gym. "Um why are you guys wearing that?" I asked.
"We have volleyball practice," Katelyn said. "Wanna come watch us play?"
"Yea!" I said with a smile. When everyone was done putting on their kneepads we headed for the gym. I saw that Coach V had already put up the volleyball net. The girls started walking toward Coach and I sat down at the top bleacher so I could see better.
I saw all the girls talking to Coach with puppy dog eyes. "(Your name)! Can you come over here?" Coach asked.
"Yes Coach?" I asked once I reached him.
"I heard you are interested in joining?" Coach asked and I nodded my head. "Well since you weren't here for tryouts do you want to tryout know?"
"Uh sure! That would be wonderful!" I replied with a smile.
"Ok I'll let you go change," Coach said.
"Coach can I go with her. I have an extra pair of kneepads she can use," I heard Katelyn say.
"Sure but you two hurry up!" Coach said. We rushed over to the locker rooms and I changed into my gym clothes. Katelyn opened her locker and gave me a pair of kneepads.
"Thanks Katelyn. Not only for the kneepads but for convincing Coach to let me tryout," I said with a smile while putting on the kneepads.
"No problem. We all wanted to get to know you better and they also helped me convince Coach," Katelyn said.
I finished and we walked back to the gym. "Ok those of you on the team go practice in a circle and I'll give the tryout to (your name)," Coach said when we walked in. I walked over to Coach and Katelyn walked toward the rest of the girls.
"Ok so first I'm going to test you in bumbing, setting, and digging. I'll give you three practice hits then another three that I'll count for the tryout," Coach explained. I walked to the middle back of the court and he when to the middle front. "Your going to pass the ball to me,"
He tossed the ball in front of me. I slammed my hands together, crouched down, and pushed up when the ball hit my arms. It went to Coach's face.
Next he tossed it to the right I ran got into the same position and bumped it to Coach. It when a little more to the left.
Finally he tossed it to the left. I ran and did the same thing I did the first two times. This time it went a little too much to the right.
"That was very good. Now I'll count these next three for the tryout," Coach said. I did exactly what I did the first three time with a little more accuracy. "That was very good now we'll do setting,"
Coach tossed the ball higher and less forward. I ran toward the ball, got under it, crouched down, and pushed it higher up and toward Coach with the tips of my fingers. I did the same the next two times on the left and right side. I also did it for the final three but with even more accuracy and higher.
"That was good I'm going to test your digging now," Coach said. He slammed the ball downward. I ran down to my knees and bumped it up. It hurt a little but I was too focused on hitting the ball. I finished the last three and my forearms we bright red but I didn't really care.
"That was good for the final two stages you will be spiking and serving," Coach said I went up to the net. He set it up. I ran vertical to it, crouched down and jumped as high as I could. I reached the ball and slammed it down over the net. I then realized the team was staring at me. I just continued spiking the ball. "Good. Now serving," Coach said.
I grabbed the ball and warmed up my hand by slamming it on the ground with my palm. I tossed it up high and just a little forward. I walked forward and jumped. I aimed right above the net and that's where it went. It slammed on the other side of the net near the middle back. I did this for the rest of the serves.
"Good news (your name). YOUR IN!" Coach said and the girls ran toward me and hugged me. "Ok ok. Practice and tryout is over. You guys can go home now. We all walked toward the front of the school. "Guys! Celebratory mini party at my house ok?" Julie said.
"Ok let me just text my brother," I said getting my phone.
"Yea and I have to tell mine too," Scarlet said.
When we were done telling our brothers or parents we all walked to Julie's house except for Izzy, Scarlet, and me we rode our skateboards.
