I stood up from the booth and he did the same and we stood there staring at each other for a second before embracing.
Then I pushed him away. "Where's the milk dad?" I asked bitterly.
"Come on Jade. I never wanted to leave I only did to protect my family!" He said trying to persuade me into believing him.
"We didn't buy milk for a year because of you! I could never eat a proper bowl of cereal FOR A YEAR! And you know I love me some Captain crunch!" I yelled at him. I was slowly coming undone and I don't think I can stop it.
"Jade. Please your making a scene and that defeats the purpose of us meeting privately." He said trying to reason with me.
I guess he was right, so I slowly sat down in the booth watching him as if I was a vulture. I glared at him and we both said nothing until a waitress entered the picture.
"Hi! My name is Tracy and I'll be your waitress for today. Are you guys ready to order?" Tracy asked. She had a slicked back blonde ponytail. There was light gray streaks through it. She had a piece of gum in her mouth that she smacked on when she spoke to us. Now that I'm looking at her she looked quite familiar.
As I'm squinting at her to see if I really knew her my father beat me to it.
"Tracy is that you?" He asked squinting also to see if he was seeing right.
She finally gave a good look at us. Her eyes sparkled as she recognized us. She quickly pushed up her boobs and put her hand down on the table. Pushing it up in my father's face. I felt sick.
She was the woman from years back that always had a thing for my dad. That was back when my brother and I were kids, but I thought was the owner? She must have been lying to impress my dad. I never liked her, I always gave her a hard time. And I don't plan on stopping now.
"Time has been treating you well I see." Tracy said fluttering her eyes and adjusting her boobs.
"And I see time hasn't been treating you so kindly." I said with an innocent smile. "Because I know for a fact gray streaks is not a new trend nowadays. And here's the question of the day. Did you stuff your bra? Because it looks quite un-proportioned."
Her face turned as red as the guy she probably molested last night to get money.
That hoe. She was a dirty hoe. I know what she does. I unfortunately witnessed it one time.
I shivered as the disturbing memories came back to my head.
"Anyways you know what I would like to eat. And the usual for my father also." I said picking at my nails. I looked up and she was still there looking like an apes ass. "Um chop chop." I said clapping my hands.
She shook slightly in rage and walked to the kitchen.
"Jade. She's probably gonna spit in your food now. You put her over the top. I still never understood why you treat her like this. I mean it was funny but mean." He said truthfully.
I looked at him carefully to see if he was bluffing. I thought it was pretty obvious I never liked her.
"She hit on you the last time we came here. And that was years ago. She obviously had a crush on you knowing fully well that you were married. I mean for God's sake you were walking around with you kids. She didn't care. If I hadn't ruined her chances she would've wrecked our home. But I wouldn't have made the efforts if you were going to do it yourself." I said it with a straight face. "Plus look at you! How are you more handsome than the last time I saw you. Your features are more pronounced. You have stubble which the women crave. Your hair is wild and curly and black, which happens to be what women also crave. Your skin is a dark chocolate but in the sun you look like a fucking God. Its not fair I say. Its not fair."
"I have never been complimented so much and insulted at the same time. I don't know what to feel." He admitted.
"I tend to have that effect on people."I said simply.
"Okay, now that I gathered my thoughts time to wreck this bad image that you have of me."
I just rolled my eyes and nodded for him to proceed.
"I left my beloved family to protect you guys."
"Bullshit."
"Language." He glared at me.
"Continue father."
"You know I'm an inventor. And sometimes what I would create was not always legal. Which was one thing out of many, your mom didn't like about me. You know about my sponsors and the trouble I have had in the past because of it. That was another thing she didn't like about about me. For the most part I was a successful inventor, until the government got involved of course. Those nosey son of a bastards should have never had known what my real job was. According to their records I worked at a fancy 5 star restaurant. But someone must have snitched about my work. I never wanted them to find out about my inventing because they would shape it into something I would never think to create. They would make it into some type of weapon to fight and kill enemies better. My work was not about that. So they threatened me. Could you guess what they threatened me with?" He looked at me asking angrily. His fist were clenched as if he was trying to contain himself.
I put my hand on his, trying my best to comfort him.
"They used your family."I concluded.
"Yes, they did. I had no choice but to leave. I hated the thought of putting my family in danger. I didn't tell your mother everything. I just told her I was leaving but that I still loved her. The look she gave me before I left broke my heart. But I had to lead the government away from you guys. I can't risk losing you or anyone that I love."
"Dad are you seeing anyone?" I asked afraid of the answer.
"No! Of course not I loved Tanya and I still do. I don't think she'll ever forgive me though. She was an amazing woman that I could never replace. And technically we are still married. We never signed the divorce papers officially. So she is still my wife." He said with his eyes gazing off somewhere else.
"Wait. Seriously? Dad that means you still have a chance to make it up to her. Its a long shot but I can tell your desperate." I said raising an eyebrow at him.
"Anything, I'll do anything." He said instantly.
My heart broke for him. But I still had a question bugging me in the back of my head. "I'll help you but I just have one more question."
"Of course." He said, his eyes waiting in anticipation.
"What exact invention of yours did the government want?"
He looked down at his hands. "You'll hate me if I told you."
"That depends on the information."
"The invention is to allow a person to see when and how a person dies."
