“Aleixandre Ryan?”
I raised my hand into the air and the substitute teacher nodded and marked me as present. I went back to resting my head on my arms. It was way too early to be learning. I hated school so, so much. Shit was too boring.
The substitute finished calling off kid’s names before looking around at us. “Uh, well, your teacher said that you guys can have a quiet study hall this period,” he said before sitting down and picking up the newspaper.
“Aleixandre, did you do your homework?” my best friend, Jay, asked. “Yes I did. Yes, you can copy.” I handed him my homework and he gave me a thankful look before hurriedly doing it.
“Jay, why don’t you just do it at home? It’s not hard,” I pointed out, picking my head up and cracking my back over the back of the chair. Jay shrugged. “I hate doing homework.” “Well you can’t copy mine all the time!” He sighed. “I know Aleixandre. And I won’t.”
I put my head back down and closed my eyes. I really wished I was back home in my nice, warm bed. I was so tired.
“Hey, Aleixandre!” I sighed and opened my eyes. “What Jay?” I asked, rubbing my eyes and running a hand through my hair. He handed me back my homework and I shoved it in my bag. I faced him and he grinned.
“What are you doing tonight?” I thought for a second before shrugging. “Nothing that I know of. Why?” He grinned wider. “Party time! I forgot about it until now. Shailer is having a party at his house tonight and he wants us to come. You down?”
I shrugged again. “I guess. His parents out of town?” Jay nodded eagerly. Shailer threw the best parties when his parents were out of town. We were all really close friends, so naturally Jay and I were always invited to the parties. They were fun, but I wasn’t a huge fan of parties.
“What time is this party at?” I asked. “It’s starting at 7. We can walk there together,” Jay said and I nodded. So I suffered through the boring school day until I was back home.
I opened my front door and let myself into my house. “Aleixandre?” my mom called, trying to find out if it was me or my father. “Yea mom, it’s me,” I called back.
I went into the kitchen where she was already starting dinner. “Mom, I’m staying over Jay’s house tonight. We’re going to study for a big test we have tomorrow,” I lied easily, opening the fridge and getting myself an Arnold Palmer.
“Okay honey. What time do you need a ride there?” “Oh, he’s coming to get me. We’re leaving around 6 or 6.30ish,” I said and she nodded.
I went to the living room and did my homework. My dad came in and smiled at me. “Hiya Aleixandre. How was school?” he asked and sat next to me. “It was good,” I said with a shrug.
We turned on the TV and went to Netflix. “What movie do you want to watch?” dad asked me as he scrolled through them. My dad and I loved to watch movie together. “Let’s watch An American Werewolf In London again. I love that movie!” I said eagerly and he put it on.
We ended up all watching it together and eating dinner in the living room. Jay texted me at 6.30 to tell me he was waiting outside.
“Bye mom, bye dad,” I called and left the house with my school bag. As soon as I got outside, I went over to Jay. We walked across the street and as soon as I was positive my parents wouldn’t be able to see me out the window, I threw my bag in the bushes.
We talked casually as we walked to Shailer’s house. By the time we got there, the party had already started. We let ourselves in and walked around until we found Shailer. He grinned at us. “Come on. I have people for you guys to meet,” he said over the music and led us to his living room.
There were a few people hanging out on the couches in his living room. “Guys, this is Jay and Aleixandre. Have fun,” Shailer said and shoved us at two boys on the couch.
One instantly caught my attention. He was incredibly attractive. He nodded at us casually. “What are your names again?” he asked.
“I’m Jay.” “I’m Aleixandre.” He nodded again. “Cool. I’m Pierce and this is Evan.” God I couldn’t stop staring at Pierce. He was so hot.
He looked at me again, his eyes drinking in my appearance. “Your name, one more time?” he asked. “Aleixandre,” I repeated. “Aleixandre. That’s long, man. Can I just call you Andre?” I nodded weakly.
And that’s how it all started.
