Penny, Nora, and her mother strolled through the store, grabbing school supplies. Penny grabbed multiple binders with different colors, and piled them into the stuffed shopping cart. She also piled in pencils, pens, markers, and a calculator.
Penny hated to shop for school supplies. It was always crowded, and she most likely saw lots of kids from her school at the store. Speaking of kids from her school, one was staring right at her. It was Brian. Penny looked back at him and nodded, continuing down the aisle.
While she finished grabbing the last items she needed, Penny’s mother and Nora went to the produce section. Since Penny had finally been left alone, Brian walked up to her.
“Hi.” Brian said awkwardly, ruffling his dark brown hair.
“Hi.” Penny replied, putting stacks of paper into her cart. “What’s up?”
“Listen,” Brian started. “I know you want nothing to do with Kyle but-”
“What made you think I wanted nothing to do with him?” Penny asked, cutting Brian off.
“Please, just hear me out.” Brian said, rolling his eyes. Penny nodded, and crossed her arms over her chest. “Kyle has definitely been upset lately, over you. I can tell that he likes you, and I think you should give him a chance.”
“Sure, yeah, like that’s going to happen.” Penny said rudely. “Because the last thing I need right now is hooking up with Kyle, and eventually meeting his parents, whom, by the way, almost killed me and my friend.”
“I don’t know what you’re probably is, but either way, you should still consider Kyle. He really likes you.” Brian said walking away. Penny shrugged her shoulders, and walked away. She pushed her cart towards the produce section and kept thinking about the conversation Brian and her had just a couple of seconds ago.
Once Penny, Nora, and her mother arrived home, they carried the groceries to the front door. Penny ran up to her bedroom and grabbed her phone, checking her messages and missed calls. She only had one text, which was from Katherine. It read “Let’s go to the mall! School clothes shopping!!”
Penny rolled her eyes. She hated the mall, and usually never went there to get her clothes. But, Penny didn’t have work today and she had nothing to do, so why not go? She replied to Katherine with a “yes”, and grabbed her purse and headed out the door. She told her mother where she was going, and waited for Katherine to pick her up.
Once Katherine had arrived, she noticed that Max was in the passenger seat of the car. “So Max is going with us too?” Penny asked, dropping her purse on the seat beside her. Katherine nodded her head.
“We need someone to help us pick out clothes!” Katherine exclaimed, clapping her hands.
“Both hands on the wheel!” Penny scolded Katherine.
Once they had arrived to the mall, they went straight towards their favorite stores. Penny had bought only a couple of items, but Katherine went all out. She got shoes, shorts, jeans, tank-tops, and lots of other things. Katherine loves to shop, and when she does, she has to have other people carry her bags. Like in the movies.
After a couple of hours of shopping, Penny wanted to slap Katherine. They probably went through the entire mall, buying every thing they thought was cute. Penny hated shopping so much, and Katherine wasn’t making it any better. They went to food court, ordered their food, and found a table close to them.
As they sat down, Katherine started a conversation that Penny didn’t want to talk about. “So, Penny. How are things going with Kyle?” Katherine asked, munching on her french fry.
“I don’t know. All I know is that he likes me.” Penny answered, taking a sip of her soda.
“How do you know he likes you?” Max asked.
“Brian told me. He also invited me to some rock concert.”
“You should go!” Katherine exclaimed.
“Why?” Penny asked. The last thing Penny wanted to do was go to a concert with a kid she wants nothing to do with.
“Concert tickets are expensive! You don’t want to leave him hanging do you?” Katherine replied.
“I don’t know.” Penny replied, while Katherine grabbed her phone. “Katherine what are you doing?” Katherine started typing into her phone, and handed it back to Penny.
“Congrats! You’re going on a date to a rock concert with Kyle.” Katherine said, smiling from ear to ear.
“What!” Penny said, looking down at the screen of her phone. Yes, she was going to a rock concert with Kyle. Penny choked on her drink, and stared at her phone with astonishment.
Bad idea Katherine.
