A short women with choppy blonde locks opened the door. She likes tired but you could still see that she was very noticibaly beautiful. She was wearing a long pencil skirt with a buttoned up cream blouse finished off with inch heels to support her tiny figure. She is very young, twentyseven to be percise. Sheis followed to the door by a young boy with wide eyes. He was in what i thought was his school uniform. Her face lights up when she sees us both. My aunty Flora!
"Luke! And you must be Lacey!" She squealed embracing us both warmly,
"Yeah I am! Hi!" I say and she lets me go.
"You've grown so much." She says, embracing me again, this time without Luke,
"Thank you, I think.." I grin at her. I really had missed Aunty Flora,
"Come in, come in!" And she returns my grin while letting me in to her cosy apartment. She gestures towards a red leather sofa and I sit down.
"Hey little guy, how's the soccer going?" Luke asks the small boy who I know realise is my 11 year old cousin, Toby.
"Really good thanks Lulu." Replies Toby. Luke playfully hits him and looks embarrassed.
Toby then left for the school bus,he goes to my school,my aunty lead us to the front room whilst she went and made us tea. She made sure to drop in a British tea joke forgetting that she was born in the uk. I've heard it hundreds of times but i laughed anyway because it felt necissary.
"What brings you to Australia then? Luke asks breaking the silence. I opened my mouth to answer but Flora interjects.
"Oh she got a photography scholarship at Penola. I always knew she'd do good, ever since she used to take photos of her cat Mittens when she was five" She called from the kitchen and I blushed Did she have to add about mittens?
"Oh cool I go to penola too and I'm taking a photography course there aswell! I wonder if we are doing the same course." Luke says smirking. "So do you know anyone else there?"
"Well, besides you and Toby? No." I replied
"Oh" Luke said under his breath getting kind of awkward. You could cut the tention with a knife in here.
Finally my aunty came in breeaking the tension and handed us our tea I thanked her and took it in turns to blew and sip it.
"Okay, kiddos I'm of to work ,Luke your jacket you left here yesterday is in Toby's room feel free to stay as long as you want, I'll be home at 8" Flora informed us, leaving me and Luke to awkwardly sit. Luke arose and stretched his hands over his head revealing his perfectly toned abs and tattoos when his shirt raised. he walked towards what I assumed was Toby's room, leaving me flustered.
He returned wearing a leather jacket.
"So, do you have any plans?" He asks me. Most likely hoping I'd say yes. He surely doesn't want be to stick around.
"Um, no." I admit.
"Do you maybe, I mean, um, do you want me to show you around Melbourne? You don't have to say yes."
"That would be cool." I finally say after deliberating what would sound best.
"Come on, then." He smirks and opens the door. It came apparent to me that smirking was his thing.
We took the train into the city,I was kind of getting bored of traveling. The journey was only about 10 minutes but it only felt like a minute as me and Luke spoke like we had known each other forever. Finally,we got to our stop. Luke stood up offering me his hand for support as the train had not fully stopped yet. I gladly took it in fear of falling over. The train came to a sudden holt and I almost fell but Luke made sure I didn't.
We walked along the platform neither of us realising we where still holding hands until a lady looked directly at our hands catching both of our stares we both looked down awkwardly coughing and reluctantly letting go if each others hand.
The cold air hit me when we stepped out of the train station.
Luke noticed and he offered me his leather jacket seeing as he was also wearing a Micky mouse jumper and checkered shirt underneath. I have him a warm smile and thanked him. I was intoxicated by the perfect smell of his jacket. He caught me smiling and smirked making my cheeks burn the darkest of reds.
"Where to go where to go" Luke thought aloud. I patiently waited for him to decide trying to keep up with his fast pace. His signature smirk re-appeared on his face,I take it he finally made a decision.
"Luuukkke, where are we going?" I asked for the hundredth time.
"Fed square" he said proudly knowing I would have no clue what that meant. After about a minute had passed Luke directed me to a sign that read 'federation square 2002' even though I now knew what he meant I still had no idea what it was, looks like I should of done my research.
He lead my inside and I was greeted by the warm smell of coffee. There where many cafés ,shops and bars. It was all set out so nicely topped with a fountain in the middle. Looks like 'fed square' as I guess most the locals would say is a shopping mall. He took me into a small coffee shop closed away from the rest of the mall.
"I like to come here when I need to think" he spoke his feelings. I was rather shocked he didn't seem like the sort of guy to open up. I smiled warmly not quite sure of how to reply but I wanted him to know that I had acknowledged his words. We both had hot chocolates and Luke insisted on paying. We went round a few stores.
Our final stop was the beach, " I had fun today Luke." I told him, probably boosting his ego a ton.
"Glad you enjoyed my company" Luke said smirking. We walked along the beach for around half an hour before returning home.
"Bye Luke, thanks for today" I smiled at him.
"Anytime, see you around" we waved goodbye and he left me in the apartment. It was 7 o'clock and I wasn't sure what time Toby would be home from school. I think he went to football practice well soccer practice I guess. I thought I'd start cooking dinner to be ready for when Everyone got home. I looked in the freezer and picked out some frozen peas, chips and chicken nuggets. I put them in the oven and waited.
I layed the food out on the table and Toby and Flora came in. "Hello,I made dinner." I announced proudly, it hadn't gone as bad as my previous cooking experiences.
"Awh thank you ever so much, that really helps" Flora smiled at me.
"I'm starving!" Toby said eyeing the food and sitting down. Everyone tucked in.
"So what did you do today?" Flora asked me attempting to make small talk.
"Luke showed me around Melbourne." I replied.
"You and Luke eh?" My aunt said suggestively.
"Lacey and Luke sitting in a tree" Toby started to sing.
"No I promise we are just friends I don't like him like that." I said matter-o-factly. Actually I hadn't liked anyone 'like that' since my last boyfriend went all wrong. I haven't been able to trust anyone ever since. But lets not talk about that now.
"Good, word on the street is he is a bit of a player" my aunt said trying to act like she was down with the kids or something.
"And by word on the street she means I told her." Toby stated rolling his eyes at his mums failed attempt at being cool. I chuckled and continued eating.
At 10 o'clock I went to bed as I was worn out. I thought about my new life, friends and school. I'm starting Penola in a week, after the holidays end and I'm really nervous but Luke said he would have my back. He didn't sound so sure though
