Well that was awkward

I'm not sure why I was so stunned. I knew I'd see him eventually, I guess. I just hadn't thought about him in a while. Wow, that's a first. Anyway, Fey labelling him one of the worst people at Penola certainly caught my attention.

"The worst? Really? That's a little tough don't you think?" Said Ava. She immediatly blushed. I was starting to think she might have a little crush. Not that I'd care though. Obviously.

"Nope. You try trying to think of Luke Brooks and his buddies in a good light when he's slept with you and then looked at you as if you were invisible the next day." Fey snapped.

"Sorry Fey, I forgot. It's just that Lacey told me earlier that they're dating." Ava replied sincerely.

"Ava! No I did not, I just mentioned we hung out a bit in the summer. That's all." I said. Everyone at the tables already gaping mouths opened wider.

"What?" I asked, exasperated.

"Don't get mixed up with him, Lacey. He's bad news, trust me." Said Mackenzie who was suddenly very serious. Everyone on the table (besides Ava) nodded in agreement. Bad news? What does that mean? The bell rang for fifth but I was still in a trance over what they had said. I had to remember to ask Ava and her friends more about this later. But first I had to navigate my way through all the students of Penola to get to my locker. My locker that I had suddenly forgotton the location of. I would have asked Ava but she was lost on the crowd. Panicking, I walked to the nearest door. I had no idea what to do as I was far too anxious to ask anyone. Then, out the corner of my eye. I saw a familliar face.

"Luke!" I practically yelled. Him and his posse all turned to stare at me at the same time. I regretted shouting already.

"Um, hey." He looked rather uncomfortable as he avoided eye contact with me and ran his hand through his dark hair. Before I could ask him anything remotely to do with lockers, a tall blonde girl with a tiny skirt on said:

"Oh my God. Is she British? That's adorable. I just wanna pinch her cheeks!" she was one of those girls who could insult you without you knowing.

"Yeah, she is." Said Luke who looked even more awkward now his friends had noticed me. Why was he behaving like this?

"Thats super cute! Hello, I am Courtney. What is your name?" She pronounced every syllable the same way you'd talk to a baby.

"I'm English, not an idiot." The words were out of my mouth before I could stop them. When it came to these annoying popular girls, I had no filter. Most of Lukes friend were looking shocked but Luke and a couple of guys who looked similar to him were smirking. Along with him. Maybe they get fed up with her too.

"Excuse me? Luke, why is she talking to me like that?" She stuck out her bottom lip and pretended to be upset. I really hated this girl. I really couldn't be bothered to stand around whilst Luke practically blanked me out and an annoying blonde acted innocent so I just sighed and decided to make my own way to my locker no matter how long it was going to take me.

After scurrying around for what seemed like hours but in reality was probably only a few minutes or so I came across what I thought was my locker. But leaning on my locker where a couple who seemed to be rather enjoying themselves. I felt awkward but I coughed loudly after all I didn't want to be late for lessons on my first day. They broke the kiss and the girl looked at me as if she expected me to say something but I didn't quite see the boys face. The girl was tall, pretty and brunette. One of the populars I guess.

"Your in front of my locker" I said and it came out stronger than I had expected. The boy quickly span his head around as if he had just realised something. Revealing his identity as none other than luke. I guess Toby wasn't lying when he said that he gets around alot. But who was I to judge maybey they had been together for ages and Toby was wrong. I realised I had been in a trance for a long time. I blushed and appoligized.

"Umm no its umm fine w-what numbers your uh locker." Luke stuttered I suppose he was feeling more awkward than me.

"Uhh 16" I mumbled checking my key.

"Uh that's actually just over there" he said gesturing towards the lockers opposite the hall. Oh damn why do I have to be so dumb sometimes.

"Oh well thanks" I muttered making a swift exit and grabbing all my belongings from my locker. I have photography now and then Australian history class. Well this should be fun.

I knocked shyly on the door labeled: 'photography 1.4' the class that Ava had showed me earlier.

"Sorry I'm late I got lost" I said shyly to the teacher in which I had met earlier that day.

"It's quite okay I understand that Ava did not do such a good job being your mentor" he said with a half smile.

"Sorry! Ava shouted from the back of the classroom.

"It's fine" I chuckled.

I looked around the class at all the new faces but I did not see luke, I wonder what he was busy doing (note the sarcasm).

"You can sit at the back between Ava and mr brooks who seems to be a no show" he said loudly and then muttered "again" under his breath.

I sat down and Ava apologised to me about 50 times and I just had to keep telling her I was fine. I didn't tell her about my awkward incedent though.

We learnt all about editing with a new software I had not encountered before. It was fairly interesting. Then the bell rang for last period.

I held on to Ava's arm this time in hope of not getting lost. She dragged me into the toilets.

"Ava we are going to be late" I gave her a funny look.

"It's fine because your new teachers will let us off for things like being late." She explained not really elaborating much.

"So is this the real reason you applied to be my mentor?" I laughed. We messed about for around 5 minutes before I managed to get Ava to actually take me to class. Luckily the hallways had kind of cleared up so I didn't have to hook arms with Ava .

She lead me outside and towards a terrapin labeled 'Australian history 1.2' I don't know what all the decimals mean. Ava explained earlier it was something like advanced classes where higher and then there where the lower ones. It only went up to 1.5. I don't understand why they can't just count up to 5. I was about to knock when Ava just barged in making me feel rather uncomfortable as the attention was fully on us. After Ava explained to sir that we where late because she was trying to avoid losing me in the halls, again, I approached the rather tubby and short looking man.

"Hi I'm new"

"Hello new I'm mr jones but you can call me sir." I laughed at his intended humour.

"My names lacey"

"Lacey did you know that the name Lacey has a French origin?"

"No I did not but I will bare that in mind if I ever go to France one day." I chuckeled.

"Okay Lacey so do you know anything about Australian history?" I don't know why he asked me this when it was fairly obvious I was British.

"No,sorry." I replied much quiter than intended.

"It's okay neither do these guys" he joked "now could you go and take a seat by mackenzie."

Luckily I vaguely knew mackenzie so I was not that nervous. As I went to take a seat I noticed someone out of the corner of my eye. It was none other than Mr brooks.
