The next day their tour took them to Detroit and Tyler woke up to the incessant chattering in the tour bus. He was exhausted but at the same time completely exhilarated. He got up, brushed his teeth in the bathroom and slowly got off the bus only to find Josh sitting outside on a chair while a crew member was dyeing his hair.

"What are you doing?" Tyler laughed as he looked at the bright red dye.

"I though it was time for a new fix." Josh replied and everyone chuckled. His hair was a blood red and Tyler knew. He caught Josh's eye contact and nodded.

"It looks good man."

After they finished they had to begin set up in the new arena and soon the building was filled with dozens of crew members running around. Tyler sat behind the piano and messed around with the keys and quietly sang to himself. His hands itched and for once the music didn't quell that. He ran his hands through his hair and then tried again. But nothing sounded right. Without thinking he slammed his hands down on the piano and made everyone look up.

"You okay?" Josh walked up to him from across the room and looked him in the eyes.

"I don't know...nothing feels right."

Josh nodded as if he knew exactly what Tyler was talking about.

"Let's go out." Josh said.

"We can't. We need to do soundcheck."

"It won't take long...," Josh lowered his voice and Tyler knew what he was trying to say. He felt his heart beating faster and his hands were clammier.

"Come on." Josh motioned for Tyler to follow him and soon they were outside, walking down the sidewalk.

"Stan is going to kill us." Tyler laughed and Josh smiled at him.

"We'll just text him that we needed to clear our heads. It's fine."

It seemed they had walked for a long time,  but then they got onto a city bus and got off after 10 minutes.

"We're going to get so lost." Tyler said.

"We'll just get a cab...relax Ty." They got off the bus and began walking down the unfamiliar street.

"Do you know where we're going?" Tyler asked and Josh shook his head.

The air was warm but there was a breeze that tossed their hair back and forth. They turned a corner into an alley and found an older man leaning against the brick wall with his eyes closed. He was sitting on a dirty piece of cardboard and his smell was overwhelming, even from fifteen feet away.

"Sir? Can you help us out? We seem to be lost." Josh approached the older man first and Tyler followed close behind. He noticed as Josh pulled out a shiny object from his back pocket and realized it was a switch blade.

The man barely opened his eyes before Josh lunged and inserted the blade into his torso. He did it again and again until his arms were tired. Tyler stared with hunger.

"Next time it's your turn." Josh smiled as speckles of blood flew onto his clothes and hands and face and into his red hair.

HOURS LATER

The crowd was wild in Detroit. Tyler jumped around the stage as the song finished and the beginning melody for the next one started. He stood in the center of the stage and closed his eyes.

"I can't take them on my own, my own

Oh, I'm not the one you know, you know

I have killed a man and all I know
Is I am on the run and go."

Tyler opened his eyes and glanced at Josh who was pounding away at the drums with all of his might. They have been replenished and Tyler felt better. He knew now what it would take to keep his strength.
