The first breath take

2.8.1995. London. The day when two souls were put together and made a newborn baby girl called Ashley. She was a brown haired girl with big blue eyes and a small mouth. Her parents loved her more than anything else in the world. She was their first and only child. At least they thought so...

After Ashley's third birthday, the mother got pregnant again. She died after she gave birth to Ashley's new brother, Jackson. It was a sad day for them. Their father Adam was a tall and fair man who worked as a pilot. Besides that, he loved to write about his journeys. His parents were divorced. His dad moved to Italy and was never seen since the day he left. Did he die or just hide well? No one know for sure. So Adam's mother Clara lived in a small house in the village Bibury, England. He visited her often with the kids. She sometimes even watched out for them while their father was away. She loved cats and she had loads of them. There were brown ones, black ones, even a white cat with red eyes. They were part of her family. The red eyed cat was named Fluffy. Mr. Cuddles was a black cat with big green eyes. A small brown cat with white paws was called Ginger. Those were the granny's most important cats. They all loved to cuddle and play in granny's backyard. But there was a cat which didn't like people and always wanted to be alone. Her name was Lily. She was old, maybe that's why she was so grumpy. Granny's backyard had trees, flowers and a small hut.
Adam was taking care of the kids well and he didn't want to talk about their mother when they were around. Ashley grew up in a beautiful four year old girl. She had no friends. They lived in a house in London. Near their house were no kids. But she was happy. She played with her one year old brother and had no worries at all.

Adam's pov

I woke up early this Saturday. I'd say it was about 7 o'clock. I heard Jackson crying. I got up. I sat down on the bed and looked out of the window. It was sunny. I decided to go and visit mom with the kids.
Suddenly Jackson stopped crying. I went to the kids room. I pushed the door slowly and saw Ash talking to Jackson. She turned around and saw me standing in the doorway.
"Good morning, daddy." She said. "Good morning Ash. Morning Jackson." Ash looked at Jackson. She took his bottle with milk and gave it to him. He was really drinking it.
"Ash," I said looking into her bright blue eyes "Why don't we go visit granny? I'm on vacation and the weather is beautiful."
"Alright." She got up and took her favourite bag. She started putting the things she might need at granny.
"One week." I said "Is one week enough?"
"I'm perfectly fine with that." She said smiling "You know I love my nanny."
I nodded. Slowly closing the door I took a towel and went to the bathroom.

Ashley's pov

Daddy's idea was great as always. I love going away from home somewhere to play. Granny has those sweet cats. They like me a lot. Only that grumpy cat Lily was never pleased to see me. Since I have never played with kids, I play alone always, I hope that near granny will be at least one kid to play with.
I felt butterflies in my stomach... Nope, I was just hungry. Jackson already had his breakfast so I didn't need to worry about that. He was laying on his blanket on the floor and looking at me.
I went towards the door and he followed me.
Daddy was in the bathroom. Probably showering.
I opened the kitchen door. The sun was shining and I was shining too. I took a bowl and a spoon, put it on the table and took out my favourite cereal.
Just as I sat down I realised I forgot the milk.
When I opened the fridge... No milk inside.
I looked at Jackson and said: "Jacky, were you really that hungry?" He just stared at me with his eyes open widely.
"No excuse for that." I smiled and hugged him.
"Daddy?!" I knocked on the bathroom door. He didn't seem to hear me. "Daddy!!" "What's wrong Ash?!" He finally answered. "No milk! ...Again." "Oh goodness... Wait I'll go to the grocery store... Just wait a minute." "OK, daddy." I said and went back to the kitchen.
Jackson was trying to open the fridge.
"No more milk for you little monster" I tickled him. He was laughing. I think the whole London heard him.
I sat on the floor opposite of him. I felt like it was time for his favourite game... Peek a Boo!
Daddy got out of the bathroom and walked to his room to put on clothes so he can go to the grocery. "Ash, I'll be right back. Just need to buy milk and... Anything else?" "Well, I didn't see any eggs in the fridge." "OK then. Milk and eggs. Milk and eggs. Take care of Jacky. Milk and eg- oh and don't, I mean it, DON'T open the door to anyone, not even me. I have the keys. OK?" "Yes daddy. Bye daddy."
We lived a bit further from every grocery store. Daddy locked the door twice. I went to my room with Jacky.
Jackson was playing with his toy cars. When he plays cars, nothing can stop him. So I went to the bathroom.
'I can't wait to see granny!' I was thinking 'She makes the best cookies and she always lets me help her. And when she starts talking about her childhood... Things get interesting.'

...

I walked out of the bathroom and went to my room. And just as I said... Jackson was still playing.
My favourite book was standing on my table next to my bed. It called me "Ashley. Ashley. Come here. Read me. Read me, Ashley. Reeeeaad." So I took her and jumped on my bed. I may have red the same book five times but I like it.
After a while, I heard daddy turning the key twice. 'Yay!' I said inside of me. "Ash?!" "Still there daddy." "Take your bag and let's go." said daddy putting the milk and the eggs into the fridge. "Coming! Oh daddy can you take Jacky?" "Well of course. As if you are going to carry him." "Why not?" I said confused "He's too heavy for you, princess."
He went to the door with Jacky in his arms. I took my bag and said "Bye!" to the room.
Daddy locked the house and we got in our car. "We have everything?" asked daddy "I do and Jacky does too daddy." I looked at Jacky with his bottle. "But what about his diaper?" "You already have that daddy... In your bag." "Oh, yeah. I guess I do. Well then let's go."
