Chapter Fifteen: Mateless

Liyana

“Damon!” I screamed hysterically.

“Liyana! Liyana! Look at me!” My brother said as he tried his best to make me look at him.

“Brother… Damon… I need to see him!” I cried and clutched his arms begging him to let me.

“Liya, you know that I can’t. I understand you’re in pain but I cannot risk your safety.” He said.

“Brother you don’t understand! Damon is in danger not me!” I tried to reason with him.

“No Liya, he is not in danger. He will be the one to cause danger.”

“What?! How could you say such things?!” I said incredulously.

“I just know okay.” He said and let go off me and face away from me.

“And you think I would believe that? Brother he is the one destined to be with me! He is my mate and I’m worried about him. Do you know how hard it is to be away from your mate?” I asked him.

He look at me with hurt written on his face, was he suffering? Did I say something wrong?

“I know….” He whispered.

I held his hands because I felt that I need to. I feel that he is about to tell something.

“I used to have a mate…” He said.

“Used to….?” I asked confused.

“Yes, used to because she is no longer here in this world.” He said.  His voice laced with sorrow.

“No, that can’t be. Brother…..I’m…..I’m sorry. I didn’t know.” I said and look at him with tears running down my eyes that didn’t know of.

“It’s alright Liya. It was a long time ago.” He said and dried my tears.

“How could I be so insensitive?” I said. I can help but be ashamed of myself for pushing the subject. If only I have known what he was going through I wouldn't have reacted like that.

“It’s not your fault. It’s him.” He consoled me and hug me, when I should be the one comforting him.

“Him?” I asked curiously and released myself from his embrace and look at him.

“We shouldn’t be talking about this. It’s all in the past and I don’t want to talk about this anymore. It just bring painful memories and the things that I lost.” he said and look away.

“I’m sorry for pushing the subject brother, but I wish I could have met her. I hope she was a wonderful person…”

“She was until that unfaithful day…”

“What do you mean brother?...”

“Nothing.” He was about to stand up when I stop him.

“Brother I need to see him.” I pleaded once more.

“You already know the answer to that and it’s a big flat NO.” He said.

"But —" I protested but he didn't let me finish because he already left my room.

Why couldn't just he let me be with Damon? And could he say that my mate would only bring danger to myself.

I have enough of this keep you safe of my brother. I just want to be my mate.

I know for sure that Damon wouldn't bring any harm to me, with the way he treated me lately I can see that he truly cared for me.

I cover my ears to prevent hearing those things.

I have to do this. This is the only way I could be with my mother. I have come this far, there's no turning back now. I don't care what happen to me as long as I find my way to my mother's arms.

I know that by doing this I'm leaving two important men in my life, my father and brother, but I can no longer go on with my life without her.

I don't care if I haven't met my mate yet. I can go on being mateless if that is the price I have to pay.

I started walking near the pond and started chanting words to open the portal that will lead me to where my mother is.

Stop...

Don't do it...

You must not go near...

I didn't let the whispers of words to stop me to finish my chanting. At last the pond glow.

But before I could truly fall into the pond I heard a familiar voice screamed.

"Liyana no!"
