Kayla's POV

"URGHHHHHHH!" I groaned out while falling back on the bed. The hotel suite was nice. Of course it was nice, a night here could feed a village in a third-world country. Good choice, father. Pick a hotel to stay at but always pick one with overpriced rooms.

The suite had a sitting room, a living room, and kitchen/dining area, one bathroom, and two bedrooms. By default, I get the largest bedroom and Jace gets the smaller one. It was a smaller room, sure. But that didn't mean that it was small. Oh, unless you haven't caught on, he has to stay with me in my suite. I sure have great freedom.

I covered my eyes and started rubbing then with the balls of my palms. When the hell did I lose such control over my own life? Since when has every little decision have to go through my father before ultimately coming to me?

"What the hell happened to me?" I asked myself out loud in a low whisper.

"Need to talk, Kay?" I heard a voice ask.

Uncovering my eyes, I saw Jace leaning against the doorway. He looked...good. He changed out of all the formal wear my dad orders my "bodyguards" to wear. He was wearing a black wifebeater and navy American Eagle sweats. Yup, I can see how he can be 19 not. Clothes can definitely change how old you look.

"My door was closed. You should have knocked before opening it. That's common knowledge I thought you'd be familiar with," I said to him. Surprisingly, my tome wasn't snarky.

"Your door was actually slightly opened. I saw you fall back on your bed and thought nothing of it. When you started talking to yourself, I saw that as my cue to maybe offer a hand," he said in a conversational tone.

"Yes, I do need to talk," I said. "But not to you."

Okay, I won't deny that that last part came out snarky.

"Come on, Kay. I'm trying to make things easy here. I want to be your friend. I'm not trying ot make your life miserable. I'm here for your safety and I will be for a while. Let's try not to be hostile to each other that whole time. You can trust me," he said.

"What have you been calling me?" I asked a little taken aback.

"Okay. It's Kayla, not Kay. Sorry," he said, his eyes a little guarded. He was probably counting down to

when I was going to explode.

I took a deep breath. "No, no. It's fine to call me Kay. It's just..." I trailed off.

"Hmm?" he asked, prompting me to continue.

"No one's called me Kay since my parents divorced."

"Oh, well you've got me to call you Kay now," he said smiling.

"Whatever," he said. With that, he left me alone and closed my bedroom door behind him as he went

to go do God knows what.

I stood up and went to the suite's main door. My intention was to find the fitness room of this hotel and work away the stress. That's always been my trick. See, when I'm stressed, I eat. A LOT. So, to stop me from doing that, I have to do the opposite of eating which is burning away the calories.

Hence, at times of great stress, you're most likely to find me in the gym.

As I headed to the suite door, I found Jace nowhere in sight. YES. No freaky dude watching over me while I work out! Shutting the door behind me, a sense of joy filled my veins as I realized that I completely got away from him. Halfway to the floor's elevator, I realized that I didn't have breathable clothes on. Now, that just really sucks. Jeans can really weigh you down. Turning back and admitting defeat, I heard the elevator bell ding and an entourage of men stepped out with my luggage set. I grinned and rushed toward them.

"Do any of you know who packed all of this?" I asked eagerly.

"Miss, we were told that your mother had readied your items for us beforehand. Is there a problem with that?" a man in a black suit answered.

Mom packed? SCORE.

She knew me inside and out. Especially observant of my strange quirks such as my behavior when I'm stressed. I quickly spotted my faux leather duffel and grabbed it from a confused man that probably answered to my father.

"Thanks. I'll be taking this. Everything else, you can bring to my suite which I'm pretty certain you know the whereabouts of," I said. In a hurry, I saluted the men and jumped into the elevator which was being held open by the elevator operator.

"Which floor, miss?" the operator asked.

"Ummm...can you tell me where the fitness room is?" I replied.

"It's on the third floor. Down the hall on the right. Its double doors are marked. Can't miss it," she said as the elevator announced our arrival on the third floor.

"Thank you so much!" I said.

I walked rapidly, following her directions. Upon arrival in front of a set of double doors clearly marked

"FITNESS ROOM," a wide grin broke out on my face and I breathed a sigh of relief. Inside, I quickly located the restroom and went inside with my duffel.

Whenever my mom packed, whether it was for her or for others, she always set aside an overnight duffel filled with essentials for one night. She believed that your first night shouldn't be spent with you rummaging through your luggage for a specific outfit you could have easily set aside. For me, one of those "essentials" is a change of exercise clothes. As I dug through the contents of the duffel, I found what I was looking for at the bottom.

A set of short shorts and a workout bra.

Having changed, I headed towards the treadmills which were my usual choice for beginning a work out session. There was only one free so, not paying attention to anything around me, I rushed towards it and grabbed it before anyone else could.

Starting it up, I set it to a slow jog deciding to increase the speed gradually. I soon got used to the pace and increased the speed a bit.

While pressing the button to speed things up, a voiced asked, "You didn't think you could really escape my watch did you?"
