A/N: Heyo everyone! I just wanted to let anyone who has never read this story before know that IT DOES GET BETTER. I know it starts out cringy because I was a lot younger but if ya just stick through the first two or three you'll probably enjoy it a lot more. Thank ye all.
You stood in front of your full body mirror that lay propped up in the corner of the bathroom adjacent to the new bedroom wall. After adjusting your red slouch beanie one last time, you finally decided that you looked emo enough to go outside. You hadn't actually taken a look around in the 2 weeks that you had lived in the small suburb outside of Chicago, for when you weren't sleeping, you were sulking in your barren room. Today, however, you decided that since the changes were permanent, you might as well make the most out of them. You began to decorate your walls with all of your band posters and Dad's old hand-me-down t-shirts the moment you woke up. Now it was time to check out the neighborhood. You were hoping to find a nice serine place were you could write in your journal without nosy family reading over your shoulder. You took a breath and walked towards the front door of the brick house that you would now call home.
Immediately, you recognized the first few surrounding houses from the ride here. There were four visible homes from the sidewalk outside the front door, and they all looked the same for the most part. The only difference was in the paint and décor. However, one in particular caught your eye. The house didn't fit in with the others. It didn't have the letter of the family's last name hanging off the door or fancy colored curtains. It was just...there. The most interesting thing about the house was the garage. All of the houses on the block had one, but this one looked a lot like your room. It had posters hung in it, and even a drum set in the back.
They wouldn't mind if I checked it out...would they?
You decided that it was worth taking the chance. After all, this was a nice, low-crime rate town. You looked down the street, checking for any passing cars. After an old dodge truck rolled by, You crossed the road and turned right, heading to the stranger's house.
Upon reaching the driveway, you saw a kid, 17 years old by the looks of him, sitting on a skateboard under the open garage door. He wasn't doing anything in particular...except starring at you. It wasn't that strange considering you were just standing in his driveway like a lost puppy, but there was still just something about the way he was looking at you. Even though he was still kind of far away, you could make out his bright, blue-green eyes. Though you wanted to just run back home, it was too late to just walk away and pretend you hadn't been staring at his house. You swallowed deeply and walked toward the pretty eyed kid on the skate board. As you approached, he jumped up from his skateboard and tripped as it rolled between his feet. You sprinted a few strides and caught the skateboard before it rolled into the road while he regained his balance. Once he had recovered, you carried it over to him.
"Sorry I kinda caused that..." you started.
"No!" he said a little louder than he had intended. "I-I mean...you didn't cause anything. I'm jut a little clumsy," he corrected with a softer tone. He slightly chuckled and scratched the back of his head while looking at the ground, trying to hide his redness.
"So..." you continued on, trying take away some of the awkwardness, "the drum set?"
"Oh!" The kid seemed to immediately pipe up at the mention of the drums in the back of his garage. "Some of my friends and I started a band. Music is kind of my thing."
"Really? That's awesome!"
Wow, a kid my age around here that is into that sort of thing...
"You actually think so?" the boy asked with a puzzled look on his face.
"Hells yeah. Music is my thing too. By the way, my name is (y/n). I moved here from (y/h/s) two weeks ago. What's your name?"
"Oh, yeah, um, its um...Patrick! That's my name." Patrick's cheeks started glowing and he returned his gaze to the ground. "I kinda forgot that we had names...I mean I know that people generally have names but...um...gee I need to stop talking."
You couldn't help but to laugh at his awkwardness, which only made him grow more red.
"It's cool, I swear," you chuckled. "Well anyways, I need to head home now. Bye I guess?"
"Oh ok...yeah," he looked back up at you, his face a little less red. "Bye I guess."
You gave him a small wave and headed down his driveway. Before you could reach the road, a voice from behind you called out your name.
"Hey (y/n)!" called Patrick.
"Yeah?" You asked, turning back around.
Patrick ran down the small hill of pavement that made up his driveway to meet you by the road.
"I was wondering if you wanted to come watch my band practice, since you said you kinda liked music and stuff. We aren't that good, but..."
"Of course!" You cut him off, saving the moment from becoming awkward again. "Just give me a place and time."
"Oh, um...really?" He piped up again, the redness leaving his face and his eyes brightening. "Um, ok. We are practicing later tonight at around 7 here. Can you make it?"
"Yeah, Ill be there for sure. See you then?"
"Definitely. Bye (y/n)!"
"Ok, bye Patrick!" you called over your shoulder as you started walking home.
Wow, I'm already getting a cool friend. Maybe this place wont be so bad after all...
