You glanced out of the window of Patrick's car, admiring the Chicago scenery. You hadn't been around town much, so you only really knew what Patrick had shown you; the coffee shop and the mall. There was plenty of daylight left, but you had no idea what Patrick planned to do with it. There was no doubt that you weren't going home until it was your only choice. Your mind filled with thoughts about what you and the boy might do later today..
"You okay?"
Your thoughts were halted by the sweet voice coming from beside you. It wasn't until then that you realized you had been doing nothing but blankly staring at the window in silence. It had to have came off weird.
"Oh, of course!" you quickly blurted, trying to make sure Patrick wasn't assuming his company was unwanted. "Sorry, I was just thinking."
Patrick raised an eyebrow, keeping his eyes on the road. "About?" he inquired curiously.
You paused. You really didn't know how to answer that question without feeling creepy. Before you could process it any longer, your hear jumped to action before your head.
"You, honestly."
You could feel your face heating up as a small smile spread across your lips. You were too scared to fully look at Patrick, but you could see the corner of his mouth lift up in a shy smile out of your peripheral vision.
"Is that so?"
His voice was slightly above a whisper. Your smile somehow got even wider.
"Yeah, it is," you replied. You finally gained the courage to turn your head to face Patrick. His smile had widened as well, and his cheeks were a precious rosy shade of pink. You could tell that he didn't have an intent of responding.
"So where are we headed?" you asked; partly to break the silence, partly because you were extremely curious.
"That depends," he answered. "Is there anywhere you want to go in specific? I have some cash on me."
"You keep forgetting that I have no idea what's in this town," you responded. Though what you said was true, as long as you were with Patrick, you had no care where you were.
"Oh, right," he chuckled. "Well there isn't that much to do here honestly. I mean obviously, considering my friends and I started a band," he joked. "We could always just go back to my place and hang out." He realized what he had proposed after he said it, as he then swallowed nervously and added, "Uh, if that's okay with you of course."
He wasn't the only nervous one. You had only been in Patrick's house once, and you weren't really invited in that scenario. This was definitely not what you had expected. However, you couldn't keep Patrick waiting, and you for sure didn't want to reject a chance to spend time with him. "Yeah, totally," you finally managed to say, trying to sound confident. "That sounds great."
Patrick seemed to almost sigh in relief. "Awesome. My parents don't get home from work until later tonight, and either way I know they won't mind."
Your eyes widened. You hadn't even considered his parents. Luckily, you shouldn't have to meet them. You were sure that your social awkwardness would be bound to mess that up.
It wasn't long until the two of you were pulling into Patrick's driveway. After turning off the ignition, Patrick looked over at you with a soft smile. "You ready?" he asked, his voice smooth and soft. You couldn't help but smile at him.
