Phil's POV:
I hear the first of the fireworks while Dan and I are playing Mario cart. I pause the game and look at my boyfriend. "Do you hear that?" I ask him with a smile.
"No? Wait, hear what?"
"Shhh" Neither of us talk for a couple seconds then another one goes off.
'boom'
"Oh! I did hear that!" Dan paused then got up to look out the window. "It's fireworks!" He exclaimed.
I join him in the window and smile at the brightly colored fire in the sky. We can see them perfectly from here just like I planned. "Let's sit on the roof," I suggest.
Dan is really excited because he loves fireworks. "Okay!"
I grab a blanket and climb out the window. I help Dan out then lay the blanket down on the roof tiles to sit on. Dan and I both sit down and I pull him close. We watch beautiful colors fly and burst in the air.
"My favorite are the ones that sizzle." I say to Dan.
"Those are nice but I like the ones that pop like popcorn the best." Dan says back as he snuggles his head closer into my chest.
The air is warm and dry. The sun had just gone down so you can see a little sliver of light behind the horizon if you look hard enough. Trees and bushes gorgeously reflect the colored light. And the moon is full.
I watch Dan's eyes for a moment and see that they are filled with love and amazement. Right now was the perfect time to do this. I planned the most perfect yet causal evening; I made stir fry for dinner, Dan and I made brownies, we played Dan's favorite game, and now this.
"Dan?" I pull the ring out of my pocket. Its a simple dark silver band with 'This is the most fun I've ever had' engraved into it.
"Yes?" He said without looking back at me.
"Fireworks hold no beauty when compared to you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you Daniel James Howell. Will you marry me?"
Tears run down Dan's cheeks as his mouth drops open. "I love you so much,"
"Is that a yes?" I chuckle lightly.
"Yes! Of course it's a yes!" Dan yells and lets me slip the ring on his long slender finger. He reads the engraving out loud and squeezes my had.
"This is the most fun I've ever had." He repeats at our wedding one year later marking the anniversary of the day we met a decade ago.
