Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Weeks passed by, soon a month and school had gotten busier. I was taking two AP classes just to get some credits in since I already took most of my required classes, which made devoting my time to AP a lot easier. Yearbook was also a lot more work that I thought. I had to stay after for all the football, soccer, volleyball, and tennis games, you name it. It was really time consuming but at least I had my friends to suffer with. But lately the main thing on everyones mind was homecoming. Homecoming this year was a halloween themed masquerade and had gotten a positive response from the school.
“So we're all definitely going to homecoming this year right?” Vida said at lunch one day.
“DUH!” Mark exclaimed.
“Ooooh! We should join the homecoming committee! I heard no one wants to volunteer, we should all do it together!” Lola said.
“Thats a really good idea. We should do it.” James said.
“Im cool with, it sounds fun.” I said. It does seem pretty exciting.
“Okay, ill go to Mrs. Johnson today and put off our names down.”
“Mrs. Johnson's hosting it?” I asked.
“Yeah why?”
“Thats really sad. Why wouldn’t anyone wanna help her? Poor lady, how would she do all that herself?” Mrs. Johnson was in about her late fifties and was one of the home economics teacher. It made me sad to think the school staff gave her the job to put together homecoming.
“I don’t know. I felt really bad too, which is why I'm super glad you all said yes.” Lola smiled. She was always willing to help out anyone in need of it.
“Thursday! Lets all go costume shopping!” Vida screamed.
“Homecoming is this saturday?!” That meant...this weekend?! How did I not know this?
“Yes Haven! Where have you been? And I'm okay with that!” Lola said.
“Can we come too?” Jose said, cheerily.
“No.” We all said in unison.
“Why not?”
“BECAUSE.” We all said in unison once again.
“Fine.” He grumbled.
“So Haven, this Thursday?”
“Yeah, it should be fine.”
“So are you gonna ask your mom if you can go to homecoming or what...” Mark trailed off.
“Well, I don't know.” I said. I really didn't know. All I knew was that I was gonna go for sure.
“You still have time.” Jose said, trying to make the conversation lighter.
“Yeah.” I forced a smile.
We all talked through lunch and the rest of the day passed by fairly quickly. When I got home I saw my moms car in the driveway. I inwardly did a happy dance because that meant I could ask her.
“Hey mom, I'm home.” I locked the door and threw my bag near the side.
“Hey babe, how was your day?” She came and gave me a kiss.
“Pretty chill, what about you?” I took a seat at the island as she heated up some food for me.
“Relaxing, I didn’t have any appointments scheduled for today.”
