Chapter 9
“Seventy five?” I gasped. The old lady has just gave me the price of the antique styled costume I had chosen.
“Thats more then mine and Lola's costume put together.” Vida mumbled.
“Yes.” She croaked.
“Can't you lower it please? I only have fifty. And my friends are buying masks.” I looked at her with my best helpless face, hoping she'd give in. She looked uneasy, so I'm guessing it was working.
“Alright, only because it hasn't looked as right on anyone else then it did on you.” She gave in.
“Thank you!” I squealed. I handed her the fifty, surprised at my luck. She packed it in the plastic, with the gloves and mask. Lola had chose an all black, matte simple mask and Vida found a red one that was tied by a black silk ribbon.
“Have a great day.” She waved and gave a smile.
“You too.” We walked out, only to be stopped by the bloody hand again, this time scaring all three of us more than the first time.
As we continued to walk out, we faintly heard the old lady laugh behind us.
Later that night, I got home around nine after dropping Vida and Lola off.
“Honey is that you?” I heard my dad call out.
“Yeah.” I locked the door behind me and made my way to my room.
“Are you gonna eat?”
“No, I already had dinner at the mall, thanks.”
“I'm on mom duty tonight, your mom went to sleep early, she was a bit tired.” My dad said, appearing form the living room.
“Ah okay. Well, you can go to sleep too. Sorry if I kept you up.”
“Nah, i'll in a bit. Find everything you were looking for?” He said, nodding his head in the direction of my bags.
“Yes!” I said, excitedly.
“Thats great. Okay, well you look drained. Go and get some sleep hon. Goodnight, I love you.”
“Goodnight dad, I love you too.” I kissed his cheek and made my way upstairs.
I put the bag in the closet for right now, changed into my pajamas and then put my phone in charge as I settled into my bed. Just as I was about to switch off my night lamp, I heard my phone vibrate.
I saw it was a FaceTime call from Liam. Right now?! I looked a mess. My hair was everywhere, I was exhausted and I was wearing a power ranger t-shirt.
But I picked up anyway.
I waited for it to connect, and set my head against the pillow with my phone in my hand. I quickly snatched my headphones in, so I wouldn’t be loud.
“Haven! Did I wake you up?! Should I call later?” I heard his voice. It was like hearing crisp water fall from a waterfall. Not something you hear very often.
“No no. I just got home, which is why I look like this. I just picked out my dress for homecoming!” I said excitedly.
“You did?! Tell me!” He asked, desperately.
“Nope. Nice try.” I said. Why do I feel so happy, just hearing his voice? Being able to talk to him?
“Fine I give up. So tell how your day went.” He settled his phone down and I did the same, settling more comfortably in my covers.
