Natsu's POV
Who the heck does this chick think she is?! Ordering me around and making me do her a favor!
I gripped my steering wheel and drove with a very angry look in my eyes. However Lucy seemed oblivious to my current mood because she propped her feet on my dashboard and leaned back with a bored look on her face.
Mostly on reflex from other people doing this, I shoved her feet off and said, "Don't put your feet up." Then there was an utmost look of relative shock on the thug's face as she processed on just what I had done.
"Don't tell me what to do," She said and put her feet up again. I was very ticked off and swerved the car sharply to the right and Lucy's body flew on the door with a loud THUD! "WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!"
"I said, 'Don't put your feet up'." After that I drove in silence, but I glanced at my rear view mirror every now and then. Can't have Sting catch up to me.
"What's with you?" I heard her say. She wasn't angry or annoyed anymore at my previous action, instead she sounded curious.
"What?"
"Why are you acting like.....like a punk," and she gestured to all of me. "but you acted like a wimp yesterday?"
I sighed, I really didn't want to share a secret with some girl I only met yesterday for only less than ten minutes. But I really didn't want to disobey her because that would mean getting on her bad side and I think I'm in the center of her good and bad side.
"It's just a problem," I finally breathed out.
"A 'problem'?"
"Yeah, a problem."
"I don't really like that answer," she stated. That doesn't make any sense!
"Yeah well deal with it," I said and pressed on the gas making the car lurch forward. Lucy felt it too because she leaned back in her seat a bit.
"Whoa, buddy calm down," She said, though she didn't sound least bit worried. But I listened anyway and looked in my rear view mirror again, I caught sight of headlights but I couldn't tell if they belonged to the competition.
I started to say, "Look, even I-" but we were cut off by a car almost ramming into us at an intersection, I swerved at the last minute and hit the brakes. I looked behind me and noticed that it wasn't Stings car but Blue Pegasus' car. It was a hot pink Mercedes AMG. "Oh perfect," I mumbled and hit the gas again.
The driver noticed us and drove on, gaining more and more speed. Soon, we were joined by four other racers and then I spotted Sting's car within the bunch. This is not good.
"Just don't hit the nitrous unless it's an absolute emergency." Remembering Levy's words of advice. This looks like an emergency, but I first wanted to try and at least shake the off before using it.
I was still in the lead, but a race can change in a blink of an eye. It's happened to me more than once when I was first starting out as a Racer. But now it rarely happens, though right now I was distracted by a certain thug so I have to watch out for her safety as well.
Jeez, so annoying.
....Lucy's POV
Man, I am royally confused right now.
This kid, by the name of Natsu, who was just a wimp and a coward the first time I saw him, suddenly is a street racer?! Boy what a good disguised he put on, he's a completely different person. He's also a lot cooler now.
"Jeez, so annoying," I heard the racer mumble and fix the goggles on top of his head. He made a sharp turn on a side road and I hit my head on the window.
"Ow! Watch it!" I shouted at him, I tried to hit him on the head but he blocked it with his hand. This, of course, surprised me. Suddenly this kid knows how to block a hit?
"Buckle up then, and don't distract me I'm trying to win a race here!" Natsu told me and let go of my hand and I snatched it back close to my body.
Who does he think he is?! Bossing me around like that, does he even know who I am?!
I know I sound like a brat but I have a reputation to uphold and no punk with some driving skills is going to tell me to do anything. But my mind was quickly swayed as soon as the pink haired punk made another right turn and I slid into the window again. Though this time he didn't comment. So, I buckled up with an irritated sigh and sat back. Why did I even hop in the car?
Mostly because I was interested in how this punk turned into....well a punk, and not the cowering baby I originally saw. Also, if I was going to witness a street race might as well get front row seat, in this case quite literally.
"Hey, your head's okay, right?" he said, there wasn't much worry in his voice but there was some.
I decided to give him a little attitude for making me angry and said, "No, hopefully I won't get a concussion by the time this race is over." The young man made an annoyed sighed and pressed on the gas. Soon we sharply turned onto the main road and we were all alone again.
"What happened to the other cars?" I asked looking around.
"I lost them," Natsu answered simply, like it was nothing.
"How do you just lose cars like that?"
"I just did. It's the same with how you lose cops that are chasing you," he said and shrugged. After a long pause I noticed that he was still looking in the rear view mirror, scanning for any signs of those cars. He had such a determined look in his eye that it gave me goosebumps. "What are you looking at?"
"Just trying to figure out how a coward like you can race," I retorted, feeling a little heat on my face at the fact that he caught me staring. He clenched his jaw and I could almost hear his teeth grind against each other.
"Yeah well-" He was cut off yet again when a white car zoomed right next to him and he turned to glare at it. "Not good," he mumbled.
"Who's tha-" I was cut off by sirens that were getting closer and closer. Those were police sirens, no doubt about it.
"Dammit, why now?!" He shouted and hit the gas, the white car next to us followed and we were neck and neck. I heard the pink haired guy start mumbling to himself, something about using something.
Natsu grabbed a some kind of radio speaker and shouted, "Warren, tell everyone the cops are here!" There was static and then a click.
"Yeah we heard 'em. Don't worry, mostly everyone's left to the garage or just scattered." there was some static and then, "A few of us are still waiting for you."
"No, tell them to get out of there, I can't lose the race right now, as soon as I pass the line then I'll get out. Besides the cops haven't caught up to us so I have time."
There was silence, except for the static. Then a click, "Alright, Levy says to not overwork the car. We'll wait for you at the garage."
"No, I'll just go home after I evade the cops," Natsu explained.
"Okay," the man, Warren said and the conversation was over. Natsu hung up the radio and sighed in exhaustion. For some reason I got a weird feeling that I'm being a burden on him.
"You can just drop me off at the next corner or whatever," I said and pointed out the window with my thumb.
"Nah, I don't want you to get caught up with the cops." He said and picked up speed again.
The white car seemed to hesitate ever since the sirens went off and he kept hanging back until he decided that he had enough race and he turned on a left side street, disappearing. Natsu smirked to himself when his rival drove off. He sped forward and passed the finish line, however only a few people straggling behind were there to witness his victory, some even recorded it and then fled once they got the footage.
"So now what?" I asked.
"Now, we lose the cops," He answered and he seemed to slightly smile at it and put the goggles over his eyes. It was as if escaping the cops was something he enjoyed.
