Bear POV
I came back into town to see all of the girls going into Rain's house. I knew she had a date tomorrow and it was going to be awesome for her. I sat down by the fire and checked over my gun. It looked to be in working condition and went over to help Bam with the smoke house.
The family was to complete their projects. Matt had finished the root cellar and Bam had finished the smokehouse by the end of the day. Noah still had three more houses to connect the water. He was also going to do the same thing for Ami with the tub. The girls had helped Rainy pick out an outfit before dinner. They all sat down at the table in the main house to have dinner together. Charlotte had talked to Grace about having a ultrasound of the baby. Then they wanted to find out the gender of the baby. Each family retired to their homes after the house had been put back together. It was a typical night for each family. The kids were put to bed and then the couple would have time for each other or to spend time alone. The next morning, Rainy woke to get ready for her date.
Rainy POV
I woke to the sound of a gunshot sent off by dad on the front porch. I sit up to look over at my mirror. I need to get ready for my date. I got up to use the shower and then I walked back to eat my breakfast. I wanted my hair to dry on its own. I sat with everyone as they made of list of things that they needed to pick up in town. I ate my entire plate as the family continued to talk. I stepped out to get ready back in my cabin. I did my makeup and hair then someone was knocking on my door. Bam and the boys were waiting on me. "Almost ready?" "I just have to change." I shut the door in his face as I went into my room to change. I got dressed and I looked in the mirror one last time as I opened the door. My brothers were waiting on me as we got ready to go to town. I got into the skiff as Blaine pushed us off. It looked like he had a few deliveries to make in town. We got on the family boat as we made our way through the water. The boys helped Bam dock the boat and I noticed John standing on the dock. He wasn't in his uniform as he helped me down from the boat. He shook all of the boys' hands as he took mine and we walked up the ramp. I turned my head to see Bam watching us as we walked up the ramp and then down the road.
"What did you have planned for today?" "We were going to eat lunch in the café and then take a walk down the beach. Does that sound like a great way to get to know each other?" "Sounds great." We reached the café steps and then he opened the door for me. We sat down at one of the booths. A lady came over to take our order. "How are you doing today officer?" "Fine thank you." "What can I get you both?" "I'll take water." Then his gave his order. "Do you know what you want to eat?" "Do you want to share a pizza?" "Cheese would be great." She wrote it down on her pad as she walked away. "Do you come here every day for lunch?" "Yes, I come up here with my partner." "When did you join the force?" "I joined five months ago. I graduated early from high school. I got my diploma last December. I started classes at the academy in January to March. I apply for the job here because of the small town vibe." "Where did you live before?" "I lived in Anchorage and my father was the chief of one on the squads in the city. I was supposed to fall in his footsteps but it didn't work out that way. He had wanted me to become a detective because of my grades in school." "Why did you choose Hoonah?" "I never liked the city and it had too many people. I almost moved back but then I met a pretty girl." I blushed at the comment. "What do you and your family do out in the bush?" "We are just trying to get ready for the winter. We have already built a smokehouse and a root cellar. Tomorrow many of the boys are going hunting on different parts of the island. Their wives and my sister take care of the garden, pick berries, and watch the children." "How many kids do they have all together?" I counted them all in my head. "12 but we have one more on the way. Charlotte is due in late December or early January." "Are all of your siblings already married?" "Yes, I am the last one that is single."
I looked past John's head as the waitress brought our pizza. I could see my brothers on the other side of the glass. Bam was watching his every move as Bear was making faces. I turned back to John as he picked up a piece for me. He sat it on my plate and we began to eat our pizza. We didn't say much as we ate. The waitress took the pan away and refilled our drinks. Then we spilt a piece of apple pie. "Are you ready to go?" "Yes" "I'm going to go pay if you want to wait outside." I walked outside to see my brother sitting on the steps. "Are you trying to ruin this date for me?" "I wanted to be sure he kept his hands to himself." "He has been a gentleman if you would like to know. Now go away, we are going to walk on the beach." They didn't move as he come outside. "How did the job go?" "It was fine. We were just going to eat something. Having a nice time?" "Very much but if you will excuse me, we are going to take a walk." He took my hand as we walked down the stairs and across the street. We stepped down to the beach as we started our walk.
"Anything else you want me to know about the bush?" "My favorite thing about living in the bush is having the freedom to do as you please. We have our own land that we built and we did it together as a family. Then each brother got married and then my sister did. Each one of them has children that range from 6 years ago to a few weeks old." "All of the kids must be close in age." "After my oldest brother had his first child, then they all started having kids." "Are you the cool Aunt Rainy?" "I sure am and I wouldn't have it any other way." He laughed as we stopped and I noticed a blanket laid out. "I took the liberty of putting a blanket down this morning." "I would love to just sit." We sat down beside each other as he took my hand. I started getting scared as he squeezed my hand. "I need to tell you something." "What is that?" "I don't want you to think I believe that you only want me for sex but I want to wait until I'm married before I sleep with someone. I just want to get that out of the way." "I'm sorry, I hope I didn't come on to strong. That was far from my mind. I have always wanted to wait too." In that moment I wanted to kiss him. "If you try to kiss me, I might be bad at it." "You have never kissed anyone?" I shook my head as he turned to face me. I moved my body as we faced each other. "I haven't kissed anyone either. Can I kiss you?" "Yes" I felt his hand on the side of my face. He leaned closer to me and our noses touched. He whispered to me. I could feel the heat from his breathe on my face. "Are you sure?" "Yes" Then we closed the gap. It didn't last very long as he looked at me. I wanted more and then he kissed me again. I thought there might be fireworks going off behind me as we kissed. I was starting to fall for him. Then I heard the worst sound on a date.
Bam POV
I saw that boy kissing my little sister and he had his hand where they shouldn't be. "What do you think you are doing to my sister?" They turned to look at me as they both stood as Rainy walked over to me. "He wasn't doing anything. He had asked for permission and I wanted it to happen." "Say goodnight because we need to make it back home before dark and you have to help the girls with dinner." I stood there watching them as they hugged and kissed again. I didn't hear anything they said as I made her walk in front of me. I looked back at him as he watched her leave. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked over to see Bear. "She is already sixteen and she wasn't doing anything wrong. If you would just trust her and let her grow up." "How could you say that? She is our little sister!" "She will always be our little sister but she isn't little anymore." We had reached the boat as we all got on and sat out towards home. I stood in the boat house as I looked out onto the water. I didn't want to believe my sister would eighteen in a couple of years. It was hard to believe. I kept thinking about her when she was little, all of those memories came rushing back. I noticed the home bay as Blaine reached for the anchor buoy. We put everything together as we all gathered onto the skiff. Our wives were waiting for us as we reached the shore. I walked towards Eleanor as I took her waist and gave her kiss. A long hard kiss as everyone walked away from us.
"What was that for?" "It is because I love you so much." I took her hand as we walked back into Browntown. "I want to go to our cabin to make a baby." "Lead the way." I took her hand as we raced to our cabin to make a baby.
