Spencer's POV
Toby and I were laying in bed.
"Who were you looking for today?" Toby asked me.
"Just a girl named Lilli," I answered.
"Really?" He wasn't buying it.
"Really." I answered, honestly. "What else would I be doing?"
"I don't know. Hanging out with someone you shouldn't be hanging out with," Toby offered.
"Really?" It was my turn.
"Just saying..."
"Toby," I cut him off, sealing my lips to his. "I love you,"
"I love you too," Toby said. "So, what did you do all day? With this Lilli person?" He continued, changing to subject.
"I was helping her find her birth parents," I replied.
He raised his eyebrows.
"I know, I know. You don't believe me, but it's the truth. So if you don't trust me the that's fine-"
It was his turn to interrupt me with a kiss. "I trust you. Completely."
"Me too,"

It was the next morning and the sun was shining. We were down by the pool again in our same seats, with Toby to my left and Aria to my right.
I had yet to see Lilli, so I let fate decide if we were to be together or not.
"Want to swim?" Toby asked me.
I looked at the cold, blue water. "No thanks,"
"You sure," he asked, seductive.
"No," I laughed, " it's cold!"
He sighed dramatically. "I'll go find Sophie, maybe she can convince you to get wet," he got up from his chair and started walking toward the pool.

I was reading my book for about 10
Minutes when I saw a blonde woman walking towards me.
"Hi," she said. "My name is Laura,"
I shook her hand. "Spencer," I said. "Nice to meet you,"
"I wish I could say the same." Laura said.
My brow furrowed.
"Can I talk to you somewhere private?" She asked.
"Sure," I said, standing. "Aria, I'll be right back,"
Laura pulled me over to a nearby patch of grass, where no one appeared to be watching.
"Look, I know you've been hanging out with my daughter, and it needs to stop," she said.
"Oh, you must be her mom. Lilli has said tons about you," I lied.
"I'm serious," Laura said.
"Why do you care if I hang out with Lilli?" I asked.
"Because you're helping her find her birth parents," she answered.
"Why is that bad?" I ask again.
"Because she not going to find them," Laura said. "You're giving her false hope,"
"You know what they say about hope, it's breeds external misery," I muttered.
"I just don't want Lilli to get hurt," Laura continued, ignoring my comment. "We brought her here to show that we support her. That app she has is a fake. This trip was lesson to Lilli. We love her. She will eventually accept that her birth parents never wanted her and they never will," Laura sighed. "So what you're doing to her brain is not tolerable. She needs to understand that her birth parents don't love her."
"Ok," I said. "Let's get one thing straight. The fact that you would let your daughter get hurt to show her how much you love her shows me that you don't love her! Next, I'd just like to say that her birth parents do love her and they will never stop! She is my little girl no matter how much you push me away from her I will continue to care about her!" I instantly put a hand over my mouth, realizing what I had just revealed.
"Your Lilli's birth mom. Aren't you?" Laura asked, but she already knew the answer. She shook her head, "You let Lilli search for her birth mom when you knew she had already found her. Then you come here and criticize me for being a bad parent."
"I'm a great parent!" I defended, but I wasn't entirely sure that was true.
"To what? Your cat?" Laura sassed.
" no, to my daughter," I said.
"You have another daughter?" Laura asked. "You lost your first, so you replaced her with a second?"
I looked down, feeling guilty for having Sophie.
"Good luck with your new family," Laura said, giving me an evil smile.
"I wish I could say the same," I muttered to myself as I watched her leave.
