Spencer's POV
We had had to cut our vacation to California short because of the trial, which was being held in NEW YORK, because that was Lilli's current residence.
Sophie and Lilli had done a significant amount of bonding over the last few weeks leading up to the trial and so far we have a fair chance of winning.
"You ready?" Toby asked me as we were about to enter the building.
"Yes," I nodded.
The trial went on for a long time. The prosecution said they're opening statements then the defense said they're opening statements. We called in witnesses and showed evidence.
Finally the jury had made their decision.
"We the jury say that Spencer Cavenaugh and Toby Cavenaugh should be the legal parents to Lillian Merad."
I jumped up and hugged Toby. "We did it!"
After the trial, Lilli ran up to me and hugged me and I hugged her back. It felt great. My friends and family we ecstatic. And so was I.
Lilli's POV
I was so happy that I could be with my real mom and that she wanted me. It was more than I thought would ever happen.
I saw my adoptive mom bear the door looking rather furious at her.
I excused myself from the celebration to talk to her.
"Mom?" I asked, quietly.
My adoptive mother turned to me and glared. "Why couldn't you have waited until you were 17?!"
"What?" What was she talking about.
"Now I owe this guy 2,000 American dollars! 2,000!" She continued.
"You never loved me." I realized. "You wee getting paid to raise me?!"
"Of course I was. You were a brat." She admitted openly.
I couldn't help it, a tear escaped and fell down my cheek.
"After your other mother died. I didn't care anymore." She explained. "I made a deal with some shady character,"
More tears ran down my cheeks. "I don't want to hear this," I said and walked back to my real mom. The one I knew actually loved me.
"What's wrong?" Spencer asked me.
I went on to explain to her what happened.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" She pulled he in for a hug.
"It's ok. I guess, now I can feel even more happy about getting to be with you,"
She hugged me again. I knew this was home.
