Eden

I was sprawled out on the chinchilla fur quilts that my mother made for me when I was a child, watching Mason pace the small space that his tall build allowed him. Back and forth, he went and back and forth my eyes followed. A exasperated sigh left my lips, my annoyance at him still being around evident.

"Relax Mason damn, your taking things far to seriously. I don't see what's the problem." I crossed my arms behind my head, closing my eyes to take a quick nap. No dice because soon as I did that, Mason snatched me by my leg and tossed me against the wall, holding me in place by putting his arm right in the juncture of my neck.

"No Eden, you are taking things to lightly. Although you don't view yourself as Marx's mate, the rest of the pack does and when you do shit that is considered dishonorable not only to your mate but Alpha, they can and will turn against you Eden. Do you not get that the Elders might deem you a traitor and dismiss you from the pack?! Then what the fuck would you do?! You think the wolf you met will allow you to join his vagabond group?!" Something deep down whispered an enticing yes but I wouldn't let Mason see how sure I was that Laurent would let me in his pack show on my face. Instead, I inhaled a deep breath and gently spoke to Mason as though we were children again.

"You're right Mason. I'm sorry that I'm not taking this as seriously as you'd like. I just don't see what I did wrong. I mean okay yeah, I may have felt up on the man but so what? It's not like I was fucking him. Marx is only mad because Laurent didn't back down from his orders. It's has less to do with me and more to do with your brothers inflated ego. Should they dismiss me from the pack for not placing a red target on everyone else's back then so be it. I don't want to be part of a people who hate all that aren't like them!" I huffed and could feel my temper just waiting to explode, like it had a detonator and it was nearing its last seconds.

"Oh yeah. Let me go damnit!" I pushed his arm away and Mason backed up, letting me be.

"My bad E, I didn't mean to do that. You know how wolves tempers are. What am I saying, of course you do, hell yours is the most volatile of all." His rumbling laughter put a smile back on my face despite his almost insult. I went back to my homemade pallet, laying across it in a carefree manner, with my legs wide open and my arms way back. Mason snorted, a disgusted sound.

"Still sleep like a damn toddler. I'll let you be for now, I'll be back a little later to inform you if the Elders have anything else to say. Rest E." Mason left through the crude maple wood door, enclosing my room in silent darkness. I sighed and let my mind wander to the shifters from earlier.

I was so intrigued by my reaction to Laurent, what caused it? It must have been some freak of nature thing, surely it wouldn't happen again right? Maybe it was like Nana used to tell me, that if I stayed a virgin forever then when a man showed me any kind of sexual attention, I wouldn't know what to do and would fumble around like a child in the dark?

I let an irritated breath out, I couldn't stand thinking about the fact that at 24 years old, I was still a damn virgin. It's not like I hadn't had any offers, it was more like I didn't want anyone who offered. There was always something off putting about the men who wanted me. Either I wasn't attracted to them, they had no personality, they were assholes, they were overly sweet that it felt fake, or they, in Marxs were far to controlling.

I just wanted someone who felt. . . right. Someone who wanted all of me, not just in between my legs. I mean in a way we were a sort of dog yeah, but did that justify fucking like them? I wanted . . . my mate. Annoyed with where my train of thought ended, I closed my eyes and tried to rest before the Elders decided my fate in the pack.
