Larry
I could hear crying in the other room, silent yet loud wails of anguish. The scent from the room told me it was the newcomer, the one who Laurent claimed was his mate. Now, I hadn't meant to be so rude to the girl earlier but my feelings for Val made being friendly with her near impossible. Val was like a sister to me, she always took care of me and Lau, hell she saved us one time when we were younger from a bear. Nearly lost her own life for it. Over time, Val and Laurent built up their relationship and when they made it official, it felt like everything in life just clicked in place but to watch that be snatched from them both in a day? It was....disheartening in the very least.
Not being able to hear anymore of the broken sounds in the house, I left my room to run, clear my head out. Spotting Laurent walking back to the room, I saw that he looked disheveled and that he had a few bite marks on him. Cocking my head to the side, I felt my eyebrow raise up.
"The hell happened to you?" I questioned.
"Mason. We um, talked." Laurent shrugged his shoulders, nonchalance heavy in his demeanor. I straightened up.
"Talked about what?" Hitting me with a, mind ya damn business stare, Laurent walked away tossing his words over his shoulder.
"What else would he and I talk about? The fucking weather?!" Hearing a door slam, I rolled my eyes and continued on outside. He didn't have to snap so abrasively, he could've just said they were talking about the girl. Everything was just so fucked up, since when was life so strained?
The cool night breeze felt amazing and I wanted nothing more to run carefree in the nearby woods, but the overwhelming smell of salt caught my attention again. Following my nose, I came across Val sitting just outside Laurent's window like she always used to do, crying. Taking a seat on the grass floor besides her, I nudged her shoulder with my own.
"You shouldn't be out here Val, you look like a creepy stalker." I joked, hoping to get a smile out of her. Her body just seemed to shrink further instead and I exhaled a dragged out breath.
"I'm serious Val. This isn't appropriate behavior." I said, then she cut me off.
"You think I give a fuck about what's appropriate behavior?! My fucking boyfriend is in there with another bitch and I can't do anything about it! Why? Because of some bullshit like fated true mates! Fuck off!" She snapped, small tremors rolling through her skin. So she would phase against me? Letting a warning growl escape me, Val quickly pushed her anger down, conceding defeat.
"You think I don't feel your pain Val? I know how much you and Laurent loved each other, hell don't be fooled, he does still love you but if the girl is his true mate as you say, then what chance do you have? Why fight when there's no chance of success?" I inquired, trying to see where her head was at. She sniffled and wiped her nose with the sleeve of the shirt she now had on, looking up at me.
"Do you really think Laurent would choose that girl if he had a choice? They don't even know each other!" She was reaching for a hopeless hope and she knew it, I wasn't about sugarcoat shit just cause I loved her like my own.
"What's it matter Val? They are bonded, there's nothing you can do about it, don't make shit worse." I warned her, even though she was "like" a sister to me, Laurent was my brother and he came first. But Val got this look in her eyes, the same look she would get every time she made her mind up and wouldn't be shaken from her determination.
"I got it Larry! I know what to do." Val shot up off the floor, exuberance all in her step now which put me completely on edge. I blinked and she was a good 30 feet away now. I got up, rushing over to her and grabbed her arm, yoking her back to look at me.
