From the day I came into school in my pyjamas convinced that my friend Lily was choking on Doritos, I knew that it was his duty to forever humiliate me till he found another victim.
I remember waking up in the morning as normal but then receiving a text from the monster himself. He told me to come to the school quickly as Lily was nearly 'dying' but when I arrived, 5 minutes later, wearing nothing but my bright pink teddy bear bottoms and a jumper, it was clear to me that no one was there except him. He was standing there, phone in hand, laughing his ass off as I planned on how to strangle him.
That incident had been brought up many, many times and people even seemed to twist it around- saying that I came in only a bath robe, or wearing a panda onesie or worse, naked.
He had been onto me for weeks; putting stink bombs in my locker, gluing all my pens together- all over the fact that I refused to give him my English notes.
The thing was, we never seemed to get on. He would make fun of me when we were younger, forever making fun of my glasses and braces and he even had a nickname for me; pigtail. Back then, I always had my hair in pigtails as it was the only hairstyle that I thought suited me. Oh boy, was I wrong.
To be fair, I was a mess back then.
The monster himself went by the name of Jackson Young. He was the player type and it just didn't seem like he could ever settle down. He enjoyed messing with girls, breaking their hearts and of course, making fun of me.
It was his duty, after all.

As I stood beside my locker, waiting patiently for Lily- I heard familiar, loud footsteps approaching me.
"Sup, pigtail." Jackson smirked, as I turned around and glared.
"How many times have I told you not to call me that?" I grunted, giving him the dirtiest look I could master.
He stared at me for a couple of seconds before falling into a big grin, his eyes sparkling in the bright light of the school corridor. At that moment, I actually believed he was showing an act of kindness but all theories were proved wrong as laughter corrupted his lungs. It was loud and clear; infecting me almost, but I let my hatred for him overtake everything I was feeling.
"I don't know how many times exactly, but I know it has been going strong for what, 3 years?" He stated and I knew he was right.
A lot of things have changed since that time; I got my braces off and replaced my nerdy, Harry Potter glasses with contacts. I started straightening my hair, and actually learned how to put makeup on properly; I no longer had squint, dotted eyeliner and smudged mascara but an everyday smokey look that appeared somewhat okay.
I didn't change for anyone, though. I didn't do it for a guy, to impress him, but to impress myself. If I looked okay, I felt more confident and I simply knew that it was time for a makeover, anyway.
"Technically, shouldn't it be something new now? I mean, the last time I had my hair in piggy tails, was the day you put super glue on my seat." I rolled my eyes, and shivered at the memory. Not only were my jeans properly stuck to the seat but when I stood up, I managed to take the seat with me. It was stuck, to my butt.
"Nah, I'm sticking with pigtail, it's catchy." Jackson laughed and walked off, leaving me alone on the school grounds.
As soon as he left Lily came over, and it was obvious that she just didn't want to see Jackson. She never liked him, from what I heard.
A few minutes later we were already on our way to class, but I couldn't help but overthink that something felt different. As I finally looked up from the ground that I had been staring at nearly the whole journey, I felt someone's eyes on me.
Oddly enough, the bright blue eyes belonged to Ryan Brown; the guy on whom I had a huge crush on, for years.
