this is a super cliche chapter and I hate it but yeh

The rest of the week went just as bad as the start of it. I ignored Lily, she ignored me, we were a big happy family.

Ryan Brown was still in police custody. He came clean about the drug overuse and his problems at home, and they agreed to make his consequences more extreme.

Things at home were okay. My mum and dad seemed to drift apart after they found out about the person behind the mask, and I couldn't help but think why.

But by the end of the week, Jackson told me everything about Lily. I wasn't expecting for him to open up like that, to express emotions after the wall that he put up to guard himself from them.

He told me that he had liked Lily for a while. Eventually, they started dating but then she realised that the feeling wasn't mutual. Jackson was the one who constantly put in the effort.

Lily never really liked him in the first place but considering she liked Ryan Brown, she thought she would give it a shot. It was mostly to make him jealous which worked eventually and they hooked up.

Ryan was the person she hooked up with the night Jackson came to my house, intoxicated.

After he told me, it all seemed to make sense. He was utterly heartbroken and he used me to see if Lily felt the same way.

I wasn't mad at him, though.

I was mad at myself for not noticing sooner.

To distract myself from all the questions bubbled in my head, I decided to go shopping. Considering I had no friends left I decided to go by myself and surprisingly, I was okay with that.

It was a normal Saturday morning, nothing exciting, nothing extraordinary. The sun shone brightly on the little town that I lived in and I somehow knew that it was going to be a good day.

Even the atmosphere was uplifting. The usual dark clouds were gone, only revealing the beautiful rays that illuminated from the sun.

It felt strange to finally have some warmth.

"I'm gonna go out for a bit," I told my mum, as I fixed my denim jacket.

"By yourself?" She asked and I simply nodded.

"I'll drop you off." She announced before I could even reply and quickly got her car keys.

The journey to the maul wasn't long. It wasn't that far from my house which I was thankful about as I did love shopping, a lot.

When I got there, I made my way to a dress shop. I tried on different ones just for the fun of it and even took a few pics.

I couldn't resist.

Then, I made a stop at Starbucks. I ordered my usual and sat down at a random table, scrolling through my Twitter feed on my phone.

Half of the time I didn't even know why I used social media. But I guess it was okay, sometimes.

After I finished my drink I decided to do more looking around. But the problem was, things didn't go so subtly. As I stood up from my seat I ended up crashing into someone, hard.

I looked up, dazzled, only to see a pair of blue eyes staring at me. I had never seen him before but boy, was he attractive.

"Shit, I'm so sorry," He announced, revealing his attractive deep voice.

"It's okay," I replied while backing away."It was my fault."

"Nah, I should have checked where I was going," The boy chuckled before adding, "I think the universe wanted us to bump into each other." He joked.

Woah, his dimples.

"Totally," I replied. "How come I've never seen you before?"

Our town was small, may I say. We all knew each other quite well so seeing a new hot guy was beyond surprising, it was strange.

"Just moved here," He said while sitting down at my table. "I'm Chris, by the way."

I smiled. "Ava."

Two hours went by in a daze. Chris and I got to know each other better and he seemed really nice.

It was nice to finally have someone else to talk to.

"It was nice speaking to you," I announced at the end of the day. "I should probably head home, though."

"Same here," He smiled. "What's your number, by the way?"

Then we exchanged numbers. The way we met felt rather cliche but I wasn't complaining; I was happy.

He insisted at dropping me off but I refused. I didn't want to see my parents overreacting over the fact that I was with a guy, so I simply took the easier option.

I walked.

The journey was rather short but refreshing. The weather was still nice and for some reason, I couldn't stop smiling.

I was actually smiling.

When I arrived home, I received a text from the new guy.

From Chris: it was nice to meet you Ava! We should meet up again soon x

The thing was, I didn't want to.

My heart was elsewhere.
