The group walked quietly together through the dark streets and alleys of Los Angeles. They were careful not to make any sudden noises or moves that could bring unwanted attention to them.
As they walked closer they heard a woman speaking through a megaphone while she shot bullets up into the sky. Leo stopped causing the group behind him to also stop. Allison stood behind her father and behind her stood Cali, then Eva, and Liz and Shane.
"I'm doing God's work. He uses an earthquake, a virus. Population under control. The masses nourish and flourish. I am that virus tonight. I am a one-woman fucking plague and you're all in my path! I am the Holy Trinity. Oh, I am the Holy Trinity. I am the Holy Trinity. I am the Father Fucker, Son of a Bitch, and Holy Shit!" Allison and the rest of the group heard as the woman spoke. Clearly she was drunk or drugged, probably both.
"When I move, you move, understand? Stay close, don't stray. Okay?" Leo asked at the group.
"Yeah." They all responded quietly.
"You too Allison, especially you. Stay next to me at all times." Leo told his daughter.
Maybe he wasn't able to convince her to stay home but the only option he had at that moment was to protect her and to guard her with all of his life. Leo knew he couldn't bare to loose his last surviving child, both physically and emotionally.
"I will, no worries." Allison replied with a small smile.
Leo had trained her at a young age to protect and defend herself, she could take down someone in less than a minute. Although that still didn't stop Leo from being an overprotective father.
"And my MP-9 silver-tipped Auto Magnum. The right arm of the free world and the left hand of God!" The group heard the lady yell.
"Go!" Leo whispered a little bit loud so they could hear him.
The group ran across the street and pressed themselves up against the cement wall that was in back of them.
"We're gonna go down Fifth. Your friend's building is close. Go through the business district, stay away from the gangs downtown." Leo said as he held onto his rifle tightly.
A loud scream was suddenly heard making everyone in the group turn their heads to the direction the scream came from. The man that was screaming fell onto the ground and three people in motorcycles surrounded him, seconds later a white truck appeared.
"Stay back, stay back." Leo said as he lifted his rifle up slightly. Allison also joined her father as she stood next to him she grabbed her bow and placed an arrow on it just in case.
"No! Please, don't! No! No!" The man exclaimed as two more men came from inside the van. They picked him off of the ground and threw him into the white van without hesitation.
"What are they doing? Where are they taking him?" Shane asked.
"It's not our business." Leo replied.
"Those are the guys that were after us." Liz said.
"We're gonna have people in front of us, and we're gonna have people behind us. As long as we move, we'll be fine. We're gonna cross Banks." Leo stated heading north.
"No, no, no, that's the long way. It's gonna be much quicker if we go down here." Shane said. As he started to walk east but once he put his foot down over the curb and alarm went off. A wire wrapped itself around Shane's ankle and dragged him down the street.
"What is this?" Liz asked.
"Get it off of me, I'm stuck!" Shane exclaimed.
"It's a trap. It's a trap. We don't have time. Move away, I gotta shoot it." Leo said.
"What? What? You're gonna what?" Liz exclaimed.
A man started shooting at the group, Leo looked up and tried shooting at the person behind the window. Another man in the stairwell across the street aimed their gun at the group. But before he could shoot Allison aimed and released an arrow at him.
The arrow pierced through his heart and the man fell to the ground lifeless. Allison grabbed another arrow and shot the box that had the wire wrapped around Shane's foot. The box sparked before the wire released it's grip on Shane's ankle.
"Thank you." Shane said standing up. Allison gave him a small smile, "It's no problem" she replied. More men kept shooting at the group and Leo and Allison aimed their weapons at them.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you men." Allison shouted at the two men who were standing on the roof across the street, both aiming their rifles at them.
"Try us girly we all know that you won't do shit." One of the men yelled.
"Don't say I didn't warn you." Allison said but only the group heard her.
In a blink of an eye Allison shot an arrow at both men, it landed on their chests. The group groaned thinking Allison had failed. What they all didn't know was that it wasn't just any regular arrow.
The men laughed, Allison noticed the smirk on their faces. "Sorry sweet cheeks but your arrows didn't work." The men taunted.
"Five, four, three, two..........." Allison counted down causing the group to become anxious.
"One." She said putting her bow behind her back.
As if on cue the arrows on the men's chest exploded and they collapsed on the roof. The group cheered and Allison bowed as a small laugh escaped her lips.
"That was amazing you are a boss." Cali complimented while giving her a high five and Allison chuckled.
"Thanks." Allison smiled. Leo smiled too, secretly deep inside he was proud of his daughter.
"Okay guys let's go." Leo said leading the group around the corner and they followed after him, jogging.
"There are six hours remaining in this year's... The NFFA pigs are wrong. They're fucking wrong! Profit-making is not the essence of democracy. Wake up, people. Wake up! It's time to take a stand. Tonight, we write our message in blood. Their blood!" Carmelo Jones spoke through the plasma screen in the city, him and his team hacked the government's system to promote their message. They were against the Purge.
A couple of years after the Purge became an official date Carmelo and his group promoted the message of how the new founding father's make money out of this night. How they kill the poor to get rid of them. They tried to make people see that the Purge is great, since it has resulted in unemployment rates plummeting to 1%, low crime, and a strong economy. But at what cost? At the cost of killing innocent people. That was the cost.
"The Purge is not about containing crime to one night, and cleansing our souls by releasing aggression. It's about one thing. Money. Who dies tonight? The poor. We can't afford to protect ourselves." The words of Carmelo Jones replayed in her mind.
Allison didn't like the Purge, she never did. Years before her brother had been killed the family would lock down their home with their security system. Once they did Allison volunteered to put her brother to sleep once the clock struck 9:30. She would tuck him in and once he was peacefully asleep she would stay with him, covering his ears when the sound of gunshots echoed through the night.
That was before it all fell apart.
The group made it to the business district, it was so silent you could hear a pin drop. Allison liked how peaceful and quiet it was. It had been a long and stressful night there were only six hours left until it came to an end. She wanted the night to end already, for the clock to speed up. But time just felt as if it had slowed down.
